Gonzalez Tabbed Organization's Pitcher of the Month
Diamondbacks bestow honor on JetHawks pitcher for July
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that right handed
pitcher Enrique Gonzalez has been selected as the Pitcher of the Month for
July. He is the second JetHawks' pitcher to earn the honor this year, joining
Clint Goocher who earned the award for May before being promoted to Double-A.
Gonzalez went 5-0 with a 2.45 ERA in five starts for the JetHawks during the
month. In each of his starts he went a minimum of six innings. He limited
California League batters to a .262 average, allowing nine earned runs on 33
hits and four walks. He also struck out 23 batters in 33.0 innings of work,
both season highs for a month.
The right-hander's five wins in the month were the most in the Diamondbacks'
organization and his 2.45 July ERA was the fourth best among pitchers with at
least four starts. During the month he never allowed more than four earned
runs, once holding the opposition scoreless.
Gonzalez has been pitching extremely well since being converted into a starter
on June 4. Since then he is 8-1 and has won his last seven decisions. His 2.68
ERA as a starter is the best among California League pitchers with at least
seven starts in that time period. His 11 wins overall are the top mark in the
California League.
The JetHawks' pitcher has followed up his July performance with a stellar start
to the month of August. In two starts he is 1-0 and has not allowed an earned
run over 13.0 innings. In his first start of the month he held the opponent
scoreless in seven innings, while striking out six batters to collect the win.
Gonzalez will make his third start in August tonight as he takes on the Inland
Empire 66ers in the final game of a three-game series in San Bernardino.
The JetHawks return home tomorrow to take on the Modesto A's for the first time
at the Hangar in 2004. This weekend's games will feature each team that won the
first half of their respective divisions and currently holds the best overall
record in their division of the league. Friday is Aerospace Appreciation Night
sponsored by sponsored by KTPI 103.1 FM, the Antelope Valley Press, and Edwards
Federal Credit Union. 2,000 bobbleheads in the image of aerospace pioneers Pete
Knight and Gordon Fullerton will be distributed to the first 2,000 fans in
attendance. Saturday, fans will be treated to hilarious entertainment from
Reggy sponsored by O²Spot and El Toreo.
