If you are talking strictly Cardinals, I have to say the RB is the only pick that really excites. Can't wait to see him break an 80 yd run against the Niners.

Our #1 pick might end up being a season changer if he is a big improvement over Massie, and even more if Massie can slide inside and improve our lineup even more. I am still wrapping my head around the pick though considering other needs we had or being able to trade back and acquire more picks in order to secure more no name small school studs.

Sounds good...just letting everyone know some of these comments could be brought up as questions to discuss the draft later today on the radio....

Gunter for me. Watching his tape & reading about his work ethic I think he will become a beast on the D-line. Humphries is a close second.

Johnson and Gunter

Johnson because we need a solid back that is versatile. With our new Oline look our run game could become a force which would open up all the other areas of our offense. If he is as good as everyone thinks he is it would be huge for our team.

Gunter because he came from a small school and looked like man playing with kids in the film. He has tremendous work ethic according to the links. The guys has quickness for a big man that you don't see very often. He could be a disruptive force on the Dline and our DC can move him all over the line so he could play 3 downs.

J.J. Nelson. Get a couple of cheeseburgers in him and it will be nice to watch a kick return that we aren't expecting a disaster waiting to happen.

This has all been passed on to NBC for Bickley, Cooper, and Dave Krieg to discuss. If you think of anything else feel free to add it, they are gonna look at this thread before going on air

Nelson - I love seeing a short, small and fast white guy trying to make it. I can live vicariously through him.

Gunter

After seeing his small tape I got flashbacks of the great Eric Swann.

Similar backgrounds...1 playing minor league football & the other playing for a small no name school. Gunter appears to have solid speed & athletic ability for a man that size & he appeared to dominate that level of play. If the Cards can get him to add 20-25 lbs of muscle while maintaining his agility we might have a gem if this kid works hard & really wants it!!!

I wonder if Michael B had those flashbacks & brought up Swannies name? Hmmmm

Humphries is my favorite pick.

Humphries can slide anywhere on the line and probably has better footwork than anyone currently on our line. We all saw what kind of turmoil ensued after Cooper's injury, even after returning from it--Humphries brings stability to a line that is two deep all the way across. As good as I feel Stanton is as a backup, he's not a guy you want in for multiple games and especially playoff games. Palmer has to remain healthy and upright for us to make any noise at all. It's not a sexy pick, but he's the type of player where a year or two from now people will be saying we got a steal. If the Cards had made this type of effort to protect Kurt Warner it possibly extends his career another two years and keeps us in the playoff hunt without interruption. Palmer isn't Kurt Warner, but he's by far the best we've had since that time and deserves the maximum protection available. It's all about maximizing opportunities and this does that. It increases the chances that Palmer is protected--even if we have an injury along the line, we shouldn't miss a beat.

Some people are saying we didn't address a need, but I disagree. One of the weakest links last year was on offense, and a lot of that had to do with the line. They were shaky at times, and got no push much of the year. I'd much rather elevate our offense to competitive levels, even if that means losing a few spots in the defensive rating categories. You have to score points in this league. The Cardinals scored at least 30 points in every single playoff game the year we went to the SB. Humphries is insurance for Palmer staying healthy, and for us, Carson Palmer is the most important player on the field.

(Edit: and for anyone saying offensive line play wasn't a problem, we lost 2 QB's due to injury and played 4 QB's at different points in the season last year--at some point you have to address that as, at least partially, a line issue and not just bad luck)

Yeah Gunter's highlight film shows him to be so incredibly dominant, I can't feel anything other than excitement for him. But it was a small school and lower quality competition, but I'm very interested to see how he develops over the next 2-3 seasons.

DJ my favorite pick as we now may have good depth at RB and put Ellington back in a role where he can succeed. Gunter may be the one I am most anxious to see on the field though.

This x10 and I would give him number 98. People say he does not have many pass moves but he had no need for them when he was playing, against his competition he was throwing them aside like rag dolls :)

Which DJ?

Humphries and for all the reasons Darkside posted. If Massie or god forbid Veldheer were to go down with an injury this year we would be screwed.

:stick:

In addition to that Massie has been decent to goodish, DJ should be an upgrade and even if Massie has improved enough to win the job at RT for now DJ could win the job at RG. If Cooper is back to full health and wins the RG position then man oh man do we have a fantastic Oline with amazing depth. Then there is the dream that the starting Oline is Veldheer - Iupati - Cooper - DJ - Massie.

Markus Golden. I think that he's the only one who you want to be playing more than 200 snaps as a rookie (anyone who thinks DJ Williams is ready to start after 19 college games scattered over several years is an idiot). Tenacious player who knows how to play the mental game on the defensive line.

K9 you don't think Humphries can start over Massie? I seriously doubt DJ won't be the starting LT.

David Johnson -- seems like a good talent with some top notch skills that fill a real need

I guess I will really appreciate the DJ Humphries pick if Veldheer misses any time next year

Golden strikes me as a low downside player -- a younger Shaughnessey.

The rest -- those guys are crap shoots any way.

Nope. Dude can't stay healthy and has like 13 games as a collegian. 13 on the Wunderlic. Coach might find a new whipping boy for mental errors. Coach doesn't care where you're drafted, and Massie is spending his second offseason at OL Performance. He's coming into a contract year with EVERYTHING to lose.

Coach seated Keim's boy Ryan Williams with the players wives for 16 games, and started Paul Fanaika ahead of Earl Watford for 32. Sat Jonathan Cooper for 8 games until he was forced to put him in for injury.

If Humphries gets on the field in Week 1, he'll have earned it. But there was a reason the NFL committee told Humphries to stay in school; there's a reason Lindys had Humphries rated as a 5th round pick after the Senior Bowl. The NFL isn't about tools and feet; it's about making the right decision 100% of the time.

Massie's suddenly underrated on this board. People are insane to think that at some point in the next 3 years Humphries is going to take Veldheer's job.
