Nope. Dude can't stay healthy and has like 13 games as a collegian. 13 on the Wunderlic. Coach might find a new whipping boy for mental errors. Coach doesn't care where you're drafted, and Massie is spending his second offseason at OL Performance. He's coming into a contract year with EVERYTHING to lose.

Coach seated Keim's boy Ryan Williams with the players wives for 16 games, and started Paul Fanaika ahead of Earl Watford for 32. Sat Jonathan Cooper for 8 games until he was forced to put him in for injury.

If Humphries gets on the field in Week 1, he'll have earned it. But there was a reason the NFL committee told Humphries to stay in school; there's a reason Lindys had Humphries rated as a 5th round pick after the Senior Bowl. The NFL isn't about tools and feet; it's about making the right decision 100% of the time.

Massie's suddenly underrated on this board. People are insane to think that at some point in the next 3 years Humphries is going to take Veldheer's job.

Easy, Massie is just average AT BEST. Nothings changed.

Massive was an above-average pass protecting RT. I can count on one hand the number of posters who thought he was part of the problem prior to Thursday night at about 8:15.

Watching Humphries without taking into account his injury history or 75 IQ, it wasn't clear what Humphries brought to the table that Massie couldn't besides being younger and cheaper. Those are just the facts. People hate on late risers until we draft one or four.

He was a 1st Rd. prospect all along. It's not like he rose in the last two weeks. And yes footwork is important.

First day of practice:

Humphries: "Coach, I know I play tackle, but is that for offense or defense?"

Coach: "DJ, you will only be playing on offense."

Humphries: "Offense, huh? Is that when we have the ball?"

Coach: "Yes, DJ, you will be tackle when we have the ball."

Humphries: "Coach? Who will I be tackling when we have the ball?"

I am going to go out on a limb, but I think Humphries is smarter than you lol

Riddick, because he looks like a pass rusher. Good bend and long arms. Probably a year away from starting.

agree but was not easy coming from a very small college and playing against good prospects like he faced in BIG12 conference
he is very quick and fast with long arms.is some way he remind me gregory

If JJ Nelson can hold up, the thought of him returning punts and going long with John Brown while Fitz/Floyd work the short-intermediate routes makes me salivate.

No, he wasn't. He NFL Draft Advisory Committee told him to go back to school. Lindy's draft preview had him listed as a 4th or 5th round pick. Prior to March 15, he was unranked on Mel Kiper's big board.

Check out his rotoworld history: http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/cfb/131404/dj-humphries

I think people are getting confused about the idea of Humphries being the "best tackle prospect" in this draft--he clearly wasn't--versus the "best left tackle prospect" in this draft class. Basically, Humphries had the best natural ability to slide and mirror, although he was less experienced, strong, and polished than the guys ahead of him on the board.

The Committee tells you to go back to school if they don't think you're going to be a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Clearly, some people had him with a first-round grade. Early in the process (March), he was projected to go in the first two rounds. But this kid needs a lot of work.

Where did this report come from that says the committee said to return to school? Because it's bogus. Here's what the draft advisory committee does:

Here is how the process works.

First, players have to be three years removed from their high school graduation date to be eligible for the NFL Draft.

When one of these players determines that he wants an NFL grade, he asks a member of his current coaching staff to set up the process. The paperwork involved asks the player to identify himself, his position, jersey number and other pertinent information, including games missed and their "best games." This paperwork has to be signed by a member of the coaching staff or a pro liason before it will be accepted by the NFL.

Once the league gets the paperwork, the name of the player is sent out to 4-5 teams. Scouts for these teams review the player off tape and provide a grade. The grades are tabulated and sent back to college coach to give to the player. The grades are broken up into five categories based on how high a player may be drafted -- 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, 4th-7th round, and unlikely to be drafted.

Nowhere is there a return to school option. And, if you think a guy went from unlikely to be drafted to 24th pick in 3 months then I have some land to sell you.

Jacksonville had a round 1 grade on Humphries as well, fwiw.

I'm most looking forward to Ginin no longer returning Kickoffs. I don't know if JJ can hold up in the NFL, but I shouldn't get pissed off at the TV on kickoffs anymore.

I'm looking forward to watching Markus Golden. He strikes me as the scrappy-tenacious player. I don 't think he'll ever get double-digit sacks, but I think he'll see a lot of playing time.

I don't think Humphries sees the field much this year. I don't think he can beat out Massey as a rookie, and he won't get much chance at reps once the season starts... ala Cooper the last two years. He'll default into the RT spot next year after Massey signs a monster FA contract elsewhere.

Where's your source on that? Not skeptical, just wondering.

Don't take it up with me. Take it up with CBS Sports:

3. Despite receiving a "go back to school" grade from the advisory committee, OT D.J. Humphries decided to leave Florida and enter the 2015 NFL Draft. And he's determined to prove that grade incorrect, saying his "fluid athletic ability" sets him apart. Humphries also focused on bulking up and adding weight the past few months.

...

Several other underclassmen from this group received "stay in school" grades, including Utah OL Jeremiah Poutasi and Penn State TE Jesse James.

Is everything
Being a Louisville guy, I like that we snagged Gerald Christian in the 7th. He has a knack for making tough catches.

NFL.com analysis
Strengths: Good athlete. Gets into routes quickly. Keeps feet under him and plays with balance and desired play strength as a target. Turns out of breaks ready to make catches. Good arm length with really large hands. Has plus concentration to catch in tight windows and with limbs flailing around him. Adjusted well and made catches on several poorly thrown balls in 2014. Reads coverages. Plays with intelligence. Capable runner after catch and lowers boom on cornerbacks. Decent down blocker and finds his second level targets as an H-back blocker. Used all over the field.

Weaknesses: Not a big target. Stiff hips. Rounds routes off and is upright through the route. Will sit and wait on throw rather than working back to ball when window is constricting. Functional strength as a blocker must improve. Can't generate much movement and could be limited as in-line tight end. Hip tightness contributes to lack of leverage as blocker. Poor technique as pass protector.

Bottom Line: A competitive tight end with an ability to make contested catches that other tight ends will struggle with. While he won't look as natural and fluid as you would expect, the tape shows a guy who can get separation in space. Has traits to be a quality player who brings diversity and toughness to an offense.

He said himself they told him to stay in school and he went against it.

Building the myth. Like the myth of Jordan being cut from his high school team. These hyper competitive guys create huge chips on their shoulders from scraps of over-exaggerated reality

Marcus Golden

A lot has be made that Golden was only productive because Shane Ray was on the other side. Well, we have Alex Okafor on the other side, so I hope Golden is just as productive playing Robin, to Alex Okafor's Batman as he was with Shane Ray.

It has not been confirmed but if the Cardinals did in fact sign Xavier Williams as a UDFA, then that will be my close second.

Maybe Shane Ray was productive because Golden was receiving the attention on the other side.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :).

David Johnson & D.J. Humphries.
I suspect the defense will fall off some this coming season, so the offense absolutely HAS to get better. Johnson is fully capable of becoming the bell cow at some point this season and Humphries may take a while to develop, but eventually should become the starting right tackle and an upgrade over Bobby Massie.

Unexcited about the Golden pick and most of the others are projections. However with the current Cardinals coaching staff, there is a better chance of developing them into contributors at some point than in years past IMO.

Your love for Bobbie Massie apparently isn't shared by Cardinals management and the folks at Pro Football Focus.

Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 said the Cardinals won't re-sign RT Bobby Massie after this season.

Arizona drafted Massie's replacement in D.J. Humphries. Massie has received negative grades from Pro Football Focus each of the last three seasons. It's possible Massie could get a look inside at guard in training camp. May 1 - 12:43 PM
