So, I am finding myself alone on the evening of St. Patrick's Day. My plan is to make a nice dinner and watch some movies and drink some car bombs.

To my Irish friends ... do you have a favorite Irish movie? My mom always loved Darby O'Gill and the Little People (just bought it online and shipped it to her tonight!). Quiet Man is popular, too.

Am looking for three good movies to watch that evening. Please share.

I'm not sure if this fits what you're looking for but I love The Guard with Brendan Gleeson.

I am not Irish and can't think of many Irish movies, but one of my all-time favorite movies is Once, which happens to be Irish, so there you go.

You hit the best one already, The Quiet Man. Boondock Saints is pretty cool. If you want to go dark, you can go Molly McGuires, Bloody Sunday, or In the Name of the Father. A really good feel good story with Pierce Brosnan (didn't know it but he is Irish) is Evelyn. That's just off the top of my head.

Just fast forward to the part where Paul's grandfather stands up in the English police station and sings, "A Nation Once Again". :)

I think someone already mentioned The Guard starring Brendan Gleeson and I just wanted to second that one. I'll be back in a couple of hours to third it.:)

As promised, I'm here to be the third poster in favor of The Guard. Brendan Gleeson is hilarious in this movie and it's worth a watch even if you don't care for the film (which I did). I'm wearing a hat as I type this so no one will notice I'm the same guy who suggested this movie earlier.

I'm Irish and if you like older movies, check out Yankee Doodle Dandy with James Cagney and The Quiet Man with John Wayne. Most people don't like musicals but Yankee Doodle Dandy is my favorite musical. James Cagney was a very talented actor and this movie is a must watch, especially during the 4th of July.

I said ancestors, I didn't say anything about my in-laws.

Yes, I knew these cretins favored the features of the germanic tribes and was just trying to not so subtlely say there might have been some hanky-panky going on around the ol' campfire.
