The great thing about Rocky (that even sets it apart from its sequels) is that it felt so real. You never lose the feeling that these could be real people in a real place. I think that's testament to Stallone and his acting ability. He was so gifted physically, but this movie showed he could actually act too. But we give him crap about his acting because, well, he was never really paid to act after that.

Exactly! It's that realism that makes the movie accessible to audiences. You can easily identify with the characters.

Another Stallone role that I think gets overlooked was Freddie Heflin in "Cop Land". In my opinion, Stallone is at his best when he's playing an average every day Joe.

As a child, I was fascinated with dinosaurs. My older brothers still like to tell the story about how I would say I wanted to grow up to be an archaeologist when I was only 5 years old. As I grew older, my life goals may have changed but I always kept that fascination with those creatures. So when I first saw this scene in "Jurassic Park" I was completely blown away, and I was in literal awe of what I saw on the screen.

Now, being even a bit more older, Dr. Grant's line "They're moving in herds. They do move in herds" resonates with me. Not that I've had some sort of controversial theory, but that kind of vindication is something I think all of would like to see for ourselves in some respect.

Spielberg is one of the greats.

"The hard part about playing chicken, is knowing when to flinch."

Classic!

One of the things I like about Scott Glenn's acting style is his "quiet rage", I always have this feeling that he could uncork at any moment.

Oh man, I don't know how I forgot this:

"We got'em Abe, Got us the Josie Wales"

"Watch'it Abe, I've seen him do some things"

I make reference to this scene all the time, and I mean all the time.

"Seen him do some things" - my goodness, I use that to describe anything that is "beyond worldly" Like Patrick Peterson punt return.

So many great moments in that movie. The whole sequence with Annie's brother (played by Christopher Walken) is terrific.

"Annie Hall" was a stellar film.

Something this thread has made me realize is of how many great movies there are from the past that would have no chance of wide distribution nowadays. I don't think that any of Woody Allen's films would get much, if any, play in today's market.

Nice contribution.

I especially like the PP21 reference, I might just steal that! LOL

It doesn't have to be something that's on YouTube, just something you can describe that's significant to you.

1 - African Queen:

"Mr. Allnut, you may come in out of the rain" <-- Any husband understands this fully.

2 - Babes in Toyland (March of the Wooden Soldiers) Laurel & Hardy -

"Well you see I had to buy some more Pee wee´s."

3 - Animal Crackers

Wait, wait ---- First off just go here, and read (lol, Hungerdunger): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0020640/quotes

But the one scene that always gets me.

Capt. Spaulding: "One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know."

The above quote was the day I discovered where my sense of humor lives.

I miss the days when I could truly get invested, as a viewer, in a summer Blockbuster. This remains a riveting scene. Everything in the film led to this moment:

"He's computer's off. Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm alright."

Or...

"Never. I'll never turn to the dark side. You've failed, your Highness. I am a Jedi...like my father before me."

"So be it, Jedi."

Or, the grand-daddy of them all...

"Nein, ich bin dein Vater!"

I completely agree.

I try to explain to my younger family member, and heck even my current friends that a movie is good when it has a good story, and good writing. It doesn't matter if the movie is 100 years old, and in black and white. A good movie is a good movie.

Using the opposite side of that logic, 10 million dollars in special effects doesn't guarantee that a movie is going to be good.

Perfect example of modern day cinema:

Dreamworks - computer programmed, high definition movie production. Love it. Why ? Pretty colors are nice and all but the writing 95% of the time is great. Story lines 95% of the time are great.

Pixar - computer programmed, high definition movie production. Hate it. Pretty pictures but backed with mindless dribble.

I have this same conversation with video games. All the graphics in the world can't make a game fun.

It makes me cringe when I hear my peers say, "How can that movie be any good. It is in black and white. There is a modern day remake of it ........."

:barf:

Now it is not that every older version of a movie is better than the remake. I actually like the modern day True Grit better then the original.

But, something like "The King and I" with Yul Brynner, seriously, you are not going to make a better version of that play, EVER!

Seriously, black and white is not all bad, just ask Dr. Frankenschteen

Or just about any freaking scene from that movie [Tombstone].
Steve

Could not agree more. Here's my favorite:

Doc: What did you want?

Wyatt: Just to live a normal life.

Doc: There is no normal life, Wyatt.... There's just life...

Scene begins at 2:56 in the clip.

I love the fight scene right before that clip starts. Luke just loses it. It's all emotion with him just channeling all his anger and beating Vader down.
