Lol. I thought of another one I think you'll appreciate:

Dr. Johnny Fever - WKRP in Cincinnati

You're right, another great character (and a pretty funny show for a few years). A few more characters that I'm surprised aren't on anyone's list yet: Fonzie, Howard Borden, Louie or Reverend Jim, Maryann or Cybill, Murphy Brown, Dutch or Burt Campbell, Boo Boo, Fran Fine.

I just thought of another character that should have been in my original list. Arliss Howard played Kale Ingram in a short lived TV show called Rubicon. The show deserved a better fate IMO and in no small part because of the character of Kale. It was nice to see a gay character who's sexual preference was incidental to his role. That doesn't happen often in primetime dramas.

He was by far the best part of that show. Wish they show was still on the air. Much better than the Killing. After a slow start it really picked up steam.

My wife wanted me to add him because she thought he was great. I was too lazy to look up his name so I didn't add him. I share your sentiment that he was terrific in that show and I was very sorry to learn it didn't get renewed.

ps... someone I forgot to add earlier was Horace Rumpole from Rumpole of the Bailey. As far as I know he was the first to use the quotation 'she who must be odeyed' when refering to his wife, Hilda.

Another line of his I loved was when Hilda, who was always looking after him to eat healthy served him a bowl of Meuslix.....he responded...'I don't want bloody mueslix, I want BLOODY SAUSAGES!!!!!

Yeah, as azsportsfan01 mentioned the show started slow and I guess it never really recovered. By the end of the season though it was one of the shows that I really looked forward to seeing each week. As for Rumpole, I'm familiar with it but I've only seen one episode from the first season (series 1). I look for it occasionally on Netflix but it's only available by disc right now.

How could I forget Horace Rumpole? I probably have every episode committed to memory. And, yes, I own a "She Who Must Be Obeyed" sweatshirt.

The morning Clinton's dalliance with Ms. Lewinsky hit the news my dad asked me if anything new was happening in the world. I looked at him and said, "Hanky Panky my Lord!" He knew exactly what I was talking about.

I just remembered Jaye from Wonderfalls which didn't even last a whole season, but I liked that show. She was played by Caroline Dhavernas, who is great.

She was a great character. Very sarcastic and funny. Definitely in my top 10.

I can think of some other great characters from shows that didn't make it a full season. Obviously, Firefly makes just about everyone's list of beloved early cancellations and it had a lot of great roles but there were others. I loved Dabney Coleman's role in Buffalo Bill and Jason Bateman's role in the equally short lived series, It's Your Move. Bateman was paired opposite the guy that played Steve on Married With Children and it was a lot of fun watching the two of them try to out-con the other.

Eric Cartman - South Park
Peter Griffin - Family Guy
John Locke - Lost
Spike - Buffy/Angel
Mal - Firefly
Janitor - Scrubs

I'll also second Jayne from Wonderfalls. Got the whole series on DVD and that show really got the short end of the stick from the network.

I'm sorry, I don't get Family Guy. To me it's the stupidest thing on TV. And there isn't one character that isn't overly annoying.

I like the original Family Guy episodes a lot better, and by that, I mean the ones that aired prior to its original cancellation. They were so much wittier and less crude. The newer stuff is starting to grate on me too.

If anyone saw South Park last night, it was a perfect illustration as to why Cartman is unlike any other character on TV. It was so twisted and so wrong, but I couldn't help but laugh.

Fernwood Tonight was best comedy show ever. Just ahead of Larry Sanders Show.
