Give Marriot more credit than this.

Thinking back......do you remember the burgers?? Even the hamburger meat had a sausagey taste to it. My poor son....I make him eat the school lunch everyday.
I think the burgers at Glendale High School had soy/fake breakfast sausage taste.

Fazoli's is really good. One of my favorite fast food places right now. I liked their baked spaghetti with meatballs.

i'm a born & bred italian east coaster who refuses to step foot into olive garden and in general can be food snob

with that said - i enjoy fazzolis - yeah it's got a school lunch quality to it and I can't say there is anything authentic about it - i definitely don't try to get anything that would be authentic

the chicken parm is more like a tyson chicken tender - and the baked ziti isn't close to what I can make at home

but I just view it as a fast food alternative and not as italian food - i don't eat fazzolis when I want italian - i eat there when I want a quick alternative to the typical fast food

My high school had good fries and bean burritos and chocolate milk shakes.

The pizza was good too.

Me too... But I would never, ever be caught in a fast food Italian place... Olive Garden, Fazoli's, Carraba's, etc... YUCK! After growing up surrounded by tremendous Italian food cooked by people who made cooking & eating a religious experience, I just can't bring myself to eat at these places... I've tried them all - once... Usually because I was on a business trip and the client chose the place... But I would never make the choice to eat there... never...

Oh my Science!! I just threw up in my mouth.
I just don't understand how you can hate that place unless you are Italian and have had the best Italian food that the world has to offer. The food tastes good and unless you are totally against fast food places, I don't know how you can dislike it. Maybe it's just the one you went to was bad, but I thought you live in Chandler...? so then you'd be going to the same one as me. I love their breadsticks and I don't see anything wrong with their pasta, cheese, sauce or meatballs. They even have sandwiches and pizza if you don't like the baked stuff.

Went there tonight because of this thread and really enjoyed it! I got a twice baked ziti with extra meat sauce and extra cheese. My 12 year old got the lasagna. Was very tasty and very filling! Not homemade of course but good none the less!

Fazolis + breadsticks = cancer. heh. Fazolis is total and utter crap. In fact, All fast food is. Fast food is, by its very name total garbage. Nothing worth eating can be prepared as qucikly as those death dens churn out their commissary made ecologically disastrous preservative and artificial flavor addled baby vomit. It just cant be done. I refuse to buy the argument that people dont have time to eat well. You choose not to have the time. Right now, Im the sole bread winner, have a new 8 week old, am working about 50 hours a week and I still cook dinner every night. In fact, tonight, I had grilled chicken breast, served over a whole wheat linguini with some of that homemade red sauce I posted the recipe for in another thread. i pulled the sauce out of the freezer, and had the whole dinner on the table in about 15 minutes. THATS fast food.

Are you reading emotion into text again? Just like a woman. Heh. Like I said in earlier posts. Im acutely aware of my obsession with this. And Ill admit Im a touch hypocritical as well, ass I still put crap into my body daily. BUT, I do make a sincere effort to think about what I eat, take the time to prepare good wholesome, organic (when I can friggin afford it) meals made from LOCALLY (thats the BIG one) grown and raised produce and meats. Its SO huge. Let me recommend a book to you. The Omnivores Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Im just getting started, and its going to be amazing. Im not getting worked up, Im just trying to spread a gospel thats actually worth spreading.

You bring up an interesting point here....does anyone know of how/where to purchase locally grown stuff in the Phoenix area? (I'm being serious). Does Sprouts get local stuff? I have always been a proponent of supporting the smaller, local businesses in my area as opposed to large chains, (ie, a local pizza joint instead of pizza hut--even if they don't deliver) but when it comes to groceries I have no clue how to do this. Any suggestions anyone?

I do most of my grocery shopping at Sprouts. The produce and meats are good values and are often better quality than what you get at the chains. Also, they do purchase locally whenever possible.

Here is another option...You pay a fee each month and you pick up a box of farm fresh produce on Saturday. I have been meaning to swing by to see how much you get. I will probably check it out in the next month or so.

EDIT: Never Mind...the owners moved to Maine and they no longer have pickup available. There is still some useful info on the site.

Fazoli's is 20 times the food of Olive Garden and 1/10th the cost.

Is it real Italian food? No, not a chance. But it's great fast Italian. If they had Zuppa Tuscana like Olive Garden, I'd eat at Fazoli's every day.

What do you have against crock pots? I can make some sick dips and chicken/rice meals in a crock that kick ass.

Nice of you to join the party. I was having a hard time fighting off these savages.

They are arguing different things. In the world of fast foods, there are things that are better than other. Taco Bell kills Del Taco. No contest. But Rubio's kills Taco Bell, and I think Taco Del Mar kills Rubios. But I'd still rather have homemade tacos and fish tacos, especially the ones made by Jaime's mother from Mexico...I grew up on those and they were AMAZING.

I've had fantastic Italian food homemade; I've had very good Italian food in expensive eating establiments. I've had Italian food at dives, fast food and in between. Fazoli's kills Olive Garden...absolutely murders that place.

People are trying to compare Fazoli's to authentic, home cooked Italian? You can't do it.

However, I'd rather eat Fazoli's than most other fast food choices out there, other than Taco Del Mar probably. I can frame this argument with specific, logical points of reference.

Fazoli's is great fast food of the Italian variety.
Fazoli's is nowhere near authentic Italian food.

Those two statements can coexist.

well played. And frozen pizza is in a category far removed from "pizza"

I want to say Chipotle kills Del Mar, but I've never been to Del Mar but it looks good. Chipotle is amazing though for fast food, but I did hear one of the locations around here got worse...
