An example was given that if a hard cap existed now that the Lakers would have to get rid of Bynum, Gasol and Walton to get down to the limit.

Good, bring on the hard cap. It should be in all sports so that the Yankees, Cowboys and Lakers of the world need to abide by the rules and not subvert them.

If this is true, then we have the schlub for another 365 days, or so....

Here's to hoping his knee holds out. But, then again, I guess it wouldn't matter too much next year as his expiring contract will be attractive in and of itself....

Basically we would be looking at trading him the same time next year. :D If I was Amare's agent, he would have already opted in for $17 million. No way he gets that in any offer.

It's like when Cuban sold off half the shares in his company for a billion dollars. A bunch of his CEO friends were telling him he was looking too short term and costing himself long term profits. Cuban made the point, it is a BILLION dollars!

Even after taxes and agent's cut, etc., he still walks away with enough money, if invested properly, to retire on for just a year's work. I think he's stupid not to take the option, but that's my opinion. Hell, I'd be happy for a tenth of that! :D

I know nobody has really considered this, and maybe rightly so, but if the 6ers don't get any other reasonable offers for Igoudala, and if it is true that we are really wanting him, would Philly do a straight-up JRich for Iggy trade? It would be good for Philly because they would still get a good shooting guard whose contract would be two years shorter than Iggy's. Just a thought, we've been talking about Amare so much.

yeah that would be ideal although if we take Iggy AND Dalembert then we have to throw in JRich to match salaries.
I'm sure the 6ers are well aware that Iggy is a much better all around player than JRich.

Very good point.

Also I think JRich would be included in a trade with Philly including Amare.

That won't help them going into next season. They want Amare's contract to expire. They need cap relief. Just getting JRich won't make them more competitive.

Also the Suns taking on Dalembert for next season in excess of 13M makes no sense....zilch.

I'd rather keep Stoudamire and Lopez combination going. It's making progress. If Clark can come along and be a stopper that will be a decent front line if all go after the boards as well.

Totally agree, a front court that is versatile, and with Lopez and Clark can actually get some stops. I think it's definitely something to build around.

That's not the point I was making. If the Sixers didn't find any takers for Iggy, then wouldn't they prefer paying that kind of money for 2 years instead of 4? This has virtually nothing to do with talent, although they are close to cancelling each other out. It would strictly be a money trade.

I thought the same, and I would even add Clark to get this deal done.

Let's just stay away from Iguodala, unless the deal is too good to refuse (76ers pick).

We'll be better off having only rookies under contract when the new CBA comes into play.

In 2 years we will be desperate to get rid off Iggy when he makes 15M$.

Amare to the Nets sounds the best to me still because we make no long term commitments and get some picks and players on rookie contracts. Of course it would kill our playoff hopes most likely.
Or Amare and Barbosa for Jemaine O'Neal and Michael Beasley or similiar.

So the best thing will be to keep Amare and sign and trade him for a similiar package or just let him walk.

Also if we keep Richardson he will have great value next year as an expiring contract. The value of expiring deals will be at an all-time high before the new CBA so we will have tons of options.

That's why the most reasonable contract to trade is Barbosa right now.

We don't need him that badly to make the playoffs. He is injured anyway. His contract doesn't expire next year.

And I would think that he is a good enough player for his contract to trade him for an 2010 expiring contract or at least 2011 expiring contract.
