Feeling good about Palmer

I'm content to know we have Palmer and he will possibly be our QB next year. Yes, he has had more than his share of games being a turnover machine but now the offense for the most part is clicking and he deserves credit. I would also like to add that he is a leader and played hurt today which say a lot about his character. He is a quiet guy and you will not see him going off about problems but that should not make one have the impression that he does not care. Of course, drafting a QB, if one is there next year when we pick, is a priority because of Palmer's age but though the defense has been lights out, some of that credit goes to Palmer and finally we are fielding a NFL team with a starting caliber single caller

I'll tell you what, if CP keeps basically the same level of play he has shown us the past 6 games or so then I say screw drafting the QBOF and let's get a pass rusher and some Olineman. Rude of me to say this after the game the Oline just played but I think we can all agree the unit can be upgraded.

I have a tough time arguing against this...but....we will be picking in the late teens or early twenties and finding an elite QB at that point is less likely. CP was a number 1 overall pick and has shown us that he can be very very good.

Now if SK thinks that the next Rodgers is still on the board when we pick then I'm good with that. Thing is CP has at least 4 more years in him and that's the typical window for winning it all in the NFL.

You're exactly right Conrad. Palmer seems to "get it" now. If a OBOF is available, snag him! Otherwise, focus on the more glaring areas of need.

Increase the team total Rushing yards to (I don’t know… pick a number, say300-500 more yards) of this year’s total

IF CP is given a clean pocket most of the time then he is elite. Can the Cards Oline provide that all the time? Certainly not as currently constructed and doubtful next year or two.

I'm still good with going BPA with LT OLB & QB all in the mix

Having watched the Texan and Colts games in person and today's game , I'm no longer disappointed. The whole offensive system and the caliber of play of the skill players just seems to be so markedly better that there is genuine hope for a competent and competitive team going forward, at least IMHO.

This is how I feel. QB is a second or third round pick tops. Carson has been more than adequate.

I've been really impressed with Palmer the second half of the season, but he's gotta keep this up during the stretch run for me to sign off on the "we don't need a QB of the future." I want to see him win a big roadie next week and at least put a decent game together against the Hags and BEAT the Niners. He got pretty fat playing against some woeful opponents (which sounds like a knock, but it's not...good QBs SHOULD do this and he has) during this winning streak but in the game we really needed him to be nails against the Eagles on the road, he was shaky to say the least.

I still probably go QB in round 2 if there's one we like there. I'm hopeful that we actually make a move in FA to try and alleviate the hole at LT so we're not backed into a corner there at the draft.

But he is proving to be at worst, a very good band-aid and at best, he could be more.

I am very pleased with how well CP has been playing. He has been improving game by game which means he is learning the system and the coaches are making the adjustments to help him out.

We still need a young QB brought in for the future. If one is there when we pick we have to go that way. But it's not as pressing a need as it was the beginning of the season. So we have the option to go OL or OLB with the first pick.

At some point we need the QBOF, the question is if that player is in this years draft or can we project out a year or two and see a bonafide QBOF out there. I am leaning quite heavily toward continuing to build the OL. Everything else gets better with a better Oline. The rushing attack gets better, pass protection gets better and the defense gets better because they are spending less time on the field.

Get a legit OT in this this draft, which these days, seems to be even harder to find than a QBOTF in the mid-to-late first round.

Let Palmer start behind THAT offensive line and he may look 5 years younger.

If the Niners have taught us anything it is that a legit OL and a lock down Defense can carry at team pretty far, even with an average QB. And their QB play is nothing if not average this season (though it has been better the last few games).

We already have the lock down D. We might just be one piece away from the other half of that equation.

3. B.A. is firmly committed to winning now.

My point is that we should be in the market for the qbotf. We don't need to panic at all but we do need to have it on our shopping list right now. In two short years it will become an emergency. You don't shop for the best deals in emergency conditions.

Do we HAVe to get one now? Not at all. I would be developing the shopping list right now though.

Nice post JG. Palmer has done more than his share to solidify our QB situation. Though the transition to the new playbook took more time than one would have liked, both Palmer and the offensive players have finally come to be solid, and of one mind-set. That is huge, as can be seen from how our defense has performed the past two years.

Palmer should be able to lead this team for several years, provided we are able to keep him upright and 'injury light'. He will play through pain as already shown. Still it would be wise to continue to look for our QBOF and hopefully get one aboard who can learn from the sidelines for a year or so before being thrown into the fray. I am sure that Keim and Licht will not pass on an opportunity to do so.

I have been kinda hoping we get a semi stud LT in the first round....then we get lucky and Aaron Murray slips to the second due to his knee injury...then we can snatch him up and let him ride the pine while he studies film and rehabs his knee...and builds some arm strength

I think CP and the offense are starting to click now. It took some time but they seem to have found a rythmn..it took KW a few years before he really got it going as well...that said he's not getting any younger and the Cards need a long term answer at QB..but CP can buy as a year or 2..maybe even a playoff win or 2..
