Adding a veteran like 34DE Brett Keisel to help solidify the depth at LDE would be favorable.

However, the Cardinals actually have a couple of interesting options in house. In addition to turning to veteran DE Frostee Rucker, who, in his own right, provides strong leadership on the field and in the clubhouse...and happens to be playing very well at the present time...a player who could potentially shine there is Matt Shaughnessy.

Some claim that 34DE is Shaughnessy's most natural position and with good reason. He is very strong at the point of attack and he is athletic enough to chase down plays and penetrate gaps.

Alex Okafor played a good game at LOLB this past week---and what particularly impressed me was how he kept contain on flow his way---how he did so in textbook fashion, as he kept his outside should free on the blocks. On one play he strung it out and because he kept his outside shoulder free he was able to make the tackle for a two yard loss.

Marcus Benard is a strong LOLB option as well.

What also would be fascinating to see is what Dan Williams could do at LDE when Almeda Ta'amu returns at NT. Williams was quite the interior force at the DT position his senior year at Tennessee. The thought of playing Williams and Taa'amu at the same time, especially versus running teams like the Seahawks and 49ers, is very intriguing.

It's a good thing too that Steve Keim drafted both Kareem Martin and Ed Stinson. Both are starting to learn proper technique---as they both have a tendency to stand up too quickly off the snap and thus lose their leverage too soon which stops their feet. The good news is that they are generating good initial contact---with added technique they could start being productive.

Dan Williams, Almeda Ta'amu, Calias Campbell

That is probably what will/should happen. During the Ravens heyday they had something similar to this with Tony Siraguasa, and Sam Adams, IIRC.

I am in agreement with a few posters to go kick the tires on Adam Carriker as well.

I think we have enough DL. His injury and subsequent placement on IR might open a roster spot for Walt Powell.

One thing that Arians/Keim has stated repeatedly, is that they don't keep players based on wanting a certain number of players at one position. They keep the best football players.

They were already planning on keeping 6 WRs. I think this opens things up for a young player like Ed Stinson.

While it couldn't be an every down event, I have wanted to see how Ta'amu and Williams could play together for a while. I was thinking this last year, and I even thought Dockett would be the one sitting. But it didn't happen.

We've had some good and some bad run defenses with Dockett. I don't think he is the biggest factor. So with his loss I don't see us losing much ground here.

Maybe it's a guess but our big improvement on run defense (besides getting a new DC) was the additions of Ta'amu, Shaughnessy, Rucker, and the return of Dan Williams from injury (and from being overweight). We still have all these guys.

Part of me thinks this opens the door to potentially an even better run defense. At the very least I don't see a big drop off in that aspect because of who we still have.

We'll miss his leadership, and the havoc he could wreck with his quickness, but even that has seemed to wane. His leadership is what we will miss the most, but someone else will have the chance to rise up and become that.

While he might be headed to the PS, Justin Renfrow had a good 4th quarter versus the Vikings. Nice sack of Teddy Bridgewater. Renfrow is 6-6, 310 and gifted athletically.

You mean Allen Branch? He used to be pretty good. But it sounds like the Bill have a problem with him. I suggest we wait till final cuts,

Ok. I'm not so depressed after reading about Kareem Martin. One site had him rated as one of the top value picks in the 2014 draft.

20 TFL and 11 sacks last year at NC and Arians says he is at 285 and can play at 300. Looking forward to watching him this weekend. 6'6" Martin on one side. 6'8" Campbell on other. Yeah baby!

But now that I wrote this he will quit football to be a financial advisor.

I found this stat on NFL insiders quite revealing when DD was on the field & not in 2013:

On Off
Yds per rush 3.4. 4.5
Sack % 7.9 6.2
3rd down %. 33.7 42.5

9-0 isn't gonna be replaced even closely by someone off the street. Those numbers are quite alarming actually!!!

I think our D is in deep doodoo in 2014 personally

Duck I'm not so sure a rook is gonna come in & be a big contributor right off tge bat on the Dline, especially a 3rd rounder. Hell it even took Calais 2 full years to really grasp the nfl game & get the NFL body to take on the physical beatings on the Dline.

I have to be the biggest Cardinal jinx in history. I get excited about Kareem Martin and find out minutes later Kareem is out for the rest of the preseason and may face season ending surgery.

This season is toast and the Cards will be the Texans of 2014.

Can't find anything on Martin. Not on jurecki's twitter, kareem martin google regular search or news search, nor bleacher report cardinals rumors.

Looks like the Bleacher Report did just that.

The article with that info referring to Martin has been removed from "Team Stream".

So maybe I'm not such a jinx after all.
