Here's mine:

1. MIA: Jake Long, T, Michigan. Done deal.

2. STL: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU. When all is said and done, the Rams take whom they consider to be the best player on the board. Let's just hope Reggie Wells keeps improving, because he will have his hands full with this dynamo. Another reason why so many of us were coveting Alan Faneca.

3. ***Trade: New Orleans swaps T Jammal Brown and picks #10 and #78 to the Falcons for the #3. NO: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC. Has been their man all along...they pay a pretty steep price, but they get him.

4. OAK: Vernon Ghoulston, DE, Ohio St. Anyone named Ghoulston should be a Raydah. He's the edge rusher they want and, picking one ahead of their long-time rivals the Chiefs, they know they are stealing the Chiefs' main target. The controversy over bypassing Howie's boy, Chris, will haunt some black blooders, however.

5. KC: Chris Long, DE, Virginia. Take that, Raydahs! Howie will now be rooting for the Chiefs. The Chiefs have now basically swapped Jared Allen for Chris Long AND the #17, #73 and #82 picks. Gotta like the Chiefs' move on this one.

6. NYJ: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas. The Jets turn down an offer from Dallas that includes the #22 and #28 picks. Those watching on TV will need to turn down the volume when this pick is made because the Jets fans are going to go absolutely berserk.

7. ***Trade: The Chicago Bears trade the #14, #43 and #90 picks to the Patriots for T Matt Light and the Patriots' #7. CHI: Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College. The Bears knew they had to jump in front of Baltimore to get Ryan and they pull off a doozy, also adding a sorely needed tackle in Matt Light.

8. BAL: Keith Rivers, LB, USC. Baltimore does here what they always do...take the highest profile player on the board.

9. CIN: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida. They were hoping for Ellis, but knew the chances were slim. With Rivers gone, they go with the need pick here.

10. ATL: Branden Albert, T, Virginia. The Falcons desperately need a tackle and they get a supremely talented one in Albert.

11. BUF: Leodis Mckelvin, CB, Troy. They were expecting Mckelvin to go at #10, but are delighted to see him on the board.

12. DEN: Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon. He's been their guy all along.

13. CAR: Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson. Need pick.

14. NE: Ryan Clady, T, Boise St. He's the guy they were hoping for when they traded down.

15. DET: Jerod Mayo, LB, Tennessee. They love this kid...he's fast, rangy and tough.

16. ***Trade: Dallas trades the #22 and #61 picks to the Cardinals for the Cardinals' #16. DAL: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas. Jerry doesn't want to get shout out of this draft without one of his Hogs' dynamic duo, and he's nervous others ahead of him like the Cardinals and Tampa Bay would take Jones.

17. KC: Jeff Otah, T, Pittsburgh. Just whom they needed and wanted.

18. HOU: Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida. They also like DRC a lot, but decide that Jenkins is more ready to make an immediate impact.

19. PHI: Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn. They need a pass rusher and love Groves' speed off the edge.

20. TB: Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina. They love what his speed will do for their offense.

21. WAS: Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan St. They want a big WR to compliment their two smurfs in Moss and Randle El and they pick whom many consider to be the best big WR in the draft.

22. ARI: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee St. They add a player with unique size and speed to their secondary, and may have taken him at #16 anyway.

23. PIT: Gosder Cherilus, T, Boston College. Let's just say they are not sold on Max Starks.

24. TEN: Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida. They need a WR and give the nod to the speedy Gator over Malcom Kelly and Limas Sweed.

25. SEA: Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC. They like USC kids and Jackson fits the bill.

26. JAX: Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina. Helps fill the void at DT.

27. ****Trade: The Atlanta Falcons trade the #34 and #68 picks to the Chargers for the Chargers' #27: ATL: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville. The Falcons worry that the Packers might take Brohm, so they make this deal and get their QBOF.

28. DAL: WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma. They are delirious that Kelly is on the board.

29. SF: Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware. Mike Martz needs a QB with a big arm to make his offense work and Flacco has the best arm in the draft.

30. GB: Chad Henne, QB, Michigan. They wanted Flacco, but are happy none-the-less with Henne and all the experience he gained at Michigan.

31. NYG: Tyrell Johnson, S, Arkansas St. Perfect fit. Has remarkable athletic ability.

Round 2:

32. ***Trade: The Arizona Cardinals trade the #50 and #61 picks to the Miami Dolphins for the Dolphins' #32. ARI: Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois. It's a surprise that Mendenhall slid this far, but he just wasn't the right 1st round fit, as teams measured their needs. Two years in a row the Cardinals move up to the top of the second round to take the player they want...again for a player whom many believed would be a Top 15 pick.

I would be tickled if it played out that way, but it WON'T. DRC will not be there at 22, nor will Mendenhall be there at 32. But, it's great to dream though!

There's a CB from UCONN - Branch... I think he's gonna be a late round sleeper and wouldn't mind seeing the Cards take a shot at him in the 5th or 6th rounds...

Just as you, I think both Cromartie and Mendenhall will be on the board at #16. It will be a tough choice for the Cards but I think they go with Cromartie. They have been intrigued by him before he blew onto the scene at the Senior Bowl. I would love the Cromartie pick. I can also see us moving down

My last guess:

Methodology:

· Review of publications re: Team primary needs
· Mike Mayock’s top 25
· Player “buzz” (who’s up… who’s down)
· trying to keep my own bias in check.
· And, trades make this a joke

· Draft 2008-04-27

· 1. Miami – Jake Long
· 2. St-Louis – Chris Long
· 3. Atlanta – Matt Ryan
· 4. Oakland – Glen Dorsey
· 5. Kansas City – Vernon Gholston
· 6. NY Jets – Darren McFadden
· 7. New England – Keith Rivers
· 8. Baltimore – Ryan Clady
· 9. Cincinnati – Sedrick Ellis
· 10. New Orleans – Leodis McKelvin
· 11. Buffalo – Devin Thomas
· 12. Denver – Branden Albert
· 13. Carolina – Derrick Harvey
· 14. Chicago – Jeff Otah
· 15. Detroit – Rashard Mendenhall
· 16. Arizona – Choice of:
· Jonathan Stewart - Dom. R-Cromartie – Chris Williams - Mike Jenkins – Aqib Talib – Jerod Mayo - Kentwan Balmer - Philip Merling

And the Arizona Cardinals select with the 16th. pick of the 2008 NFL draft:

Jonathan Stewart – running back Oregon.

(Of course, with all of the above potential Cards’ picks. a trade down of no more than 5 spots is a possibility)

Mendenhall at #32

No sooner after his selection, Adam Schecter would announce that he has learned that Mendenhall was arrested, last night, on a drug possession charge. The Cardinals say that they were aware of the arrest, and as a precaution, Mendenhall would be moving in with Matt Leinhart, so that Matt can help bring some maturity into his life.

You 'da man, Mitch.

Heres Mine:

1. Miami, Jake Long.
2. Atlanta, Dorsey. Atlanta blinks and moves up for a third rounder (#68). St. Louis suckers the Falcons, and still gets their man;
3. St. Louis, Chris Long.
4. Oakland, McFadden. Senile Al forgets he already has 3 backs.
5. Baltimore, Ryan. Baltimore trades a 2nd and 4th.
6. NYJ, Ghoulston.
7. New Orleans, Ellis. New Orleans trades a 3rd and a 5th.
8. Kansas City, Clady.
9. Cin, Rivers.
10. NE, McKelvin. I've been knowing all along that NE would not draft a corner, and for some reason I have them picking one.
11. Buff, Devin Thomas. Buffalo reaches, as they've done before.
12. Den, C. Williams. Perfect zone blocker. The run on OTs begins.
13, Carolina, Albert.
14, Otah. For some reason, Otah and Chicago seem to fit perfectly.
15. Mayo. Thanks Matt.
16. Washington, Harvey. Skins need a DE, and have him far above Merling. They jump in front of KC to get there man. Graves has said we would go no further than 21 (think that was a hint?) Skins trade their 1st (#21) and 2nd(#51) to Cards for this pick and the Cards 4th. Cards can afford this b/c Mendenhall, Stewart, Jenkins and Rogers-Cromartie (with Cason as fall-back) are still on the board.
17. KC, Mike Jenkins.
18. Hou, Mendenhall.
19. PHI, Cherilis. A guy named Gosder should play in Philly.
20. TB, Rogers-Cromartie.
21. Ari, Stewart. The trade works, though I personally prefer Mendenhall.
22. Dal, Felix Jones. Jerry Jones Arkansas Man-love.
23. Pitt, Talib.
24. Ten, Limas Sweed. Reuniting of Texas QB/WR combo.
25. Seat, Balmer.
26. Jack, Merling. Great value
27. SD, Flowers.
28. Dal, DeSean Jackson. Jerry tries to trade this pick to Detroit for Roy Williams and Matt Millen just laughs, and asks for Jerry's entire draft.
29. SF, Groves. LB for second straight year.
30. GB, Cason. Just seems like this is a foregone conclusion.
31. NYG. Connor. Perfect Fit.

Rest of Cards Draft:
2A. Justin King.
2B. (from Washington). Cliff Avril. Lots of OLB on this team, but only LaBoy is under 30.
3. Jason Johnson, DE. Rising up draft boards, so this is admitedly a pipe-dream.
4. Traded to Washington.
5. Owen Schmidt, FB, West Virginia. Beast.
6. Durant Brooks. Poor Man's Ray Guy.
7. Antwan Molden (also a pipe dream). Somebody's got to try to cover Anquan Boldin in practice.

Complete Round 1 v5

1. Miami Dolphins - Jake Long (OT) Michigan - Done Deal
2. St. Louis Rams - Glenn Dorsey (DT) LSU - best combo of high-ceiling and low floor
3. Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan (QB) Boston College - would have taken Dorsey, but starts fresh with Ryan instead
4. Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden (RB) Arkansas - close call between he and Long, ultimately speed and flash wins out for Davis
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Chris Long (DE) Virginia - Counting their blessings he fell
6. New York Jets - Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB) Ohio State - Could be a monster, could be a bust. I'm (and the Jets are) betting Monster.
7. New England Patriots (from San Francisco) - Keith Rivers (LB) USC - They have some old-ass LBs
8. Baltimore Ravens – Sedrick Ellis (DT) USC - No Ryan, but a great DT to help young-ify that defense.
9. Cincinnati Bengals - Brandon Albert (OT) Virginia - Bengals have gone from contenders to tons of holes to fill seemingly overnight. Best value.
10. New Orleans Saints - Leodis McKelvin (CB) Troy - Return man to take wear and tear off of Bush in addition to a good CB; two birds.
11. Buffalo Bills – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB) Tennesse St - WR is tempting, but there will be good ones at the top of the second
12. Denver Broncos - Rashard Mendenhall (RB) Illinois - Shanny tries to turn his draft record around with a seemingly sure-thing.
13. Carolina Panthers - Ryan Clady (OT) Boise State - Fox knows the value of solid guys in the trenches
14. Chicago Bears - Jeff Otah (OT) Pittsburgh - Mendenhall being gone makes this a much easier choice. Williams is a real possibility here, too.
15. Detroit Lions - Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB) Florida - Even Millen can't F this pick up...right?
16. Arizona Cardinals - Mike Jenkins (CB) South Florida - CB is WAY too much of a need and maybe even coincides with BPA here.
17. Kansas City Chiefs - Chris Williams (OT) Vanderbilt - They can't believe their luck...I think they're sure to go OL here
18. Houston Texans – Jonathan Stewart (RB) Oregon - I have a gut feeling about this one. Also, I predict Kubiak will have this team deep in the playoffs as early as the 09 season.
19. Philadelphia Eagles – Devin Thomas (WR) Michigan St. - I actually think they'll pull off a trade for OchoCinco, but barring that it's almost a certainty they take a WR.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Brian Brohm (QB) Louisville - Gruden is supposed to be a QB guru, but he's struck out a couple of times. Brohm is his redemption.
21. Washington Redskins – Philip Merling (DE) Clemson - What? Safe and steady from Snyder? yup.
22. Dallas Cowboys (From Cleveland) - Felix Jones (RB) Arkansas - Is there a mock draft in existence without Dallas taking Jones?
23. Pittsburgh Steelers - Kentwan Balmer (DL) North Carolina - Nice fit for the Steel Curtain
24. Tennessee Titans – Malcolm Kelly (WR) Oklahoma - Young needs weapons. Kelly might be a great one if he's half as good as he thinks he is
25. Seattle Seahawks – Limas Sweed (WR) Texas - Keller (TE) is a possibility, but I think they look for a little more explosion on O
26. Jacksonville Jaguars - Aqib Talib (CB) Kansas - Good value
27. San Diego Chargers – Brandon Flowers (CB) Virginia Tech - Best Cb in the draft, IMO. The rich get richer.
28. Dallas Cowboys - Early Doucet (WR) LSU - This could be a scary offense.
29. San Francisco 49ers (From Indy) - DeSean Jackson (WR) Cal - WR here could be my lock of the draft.
30. Green Bay Packers – Dustin Keller (TE) Purdue - A safety valve for Rogers, ala Farve to Franks.
31. New England Patriots - cheaters
32. New York Giants – Kenny Philips (S) Miami Fl - Great value.

Cardinals’ Mock
1. CB Mike Jenkins
2. RB Chris Johnson
3. CB Terrance Wheatly
4. P Durrant Brooks
5. DT/DE Lionel Dotson
6. T King Dunlap
7. WR Davone Bess

Good work guys. Great posts.

It looks like I got the first pick right! And...alas...my morning mock is one and done.

So...with ESPN's reports of STL taking Chris Long, ATL taking Matt Ryan and OAK taking Darren McFadden...let's update the mock:

1. MIA: T Long
2. STL: DE Long
3. ATL: QB Ryan
4. OAK: RB McFadden
5. KC: DE Gholston
6. NYJ: DT Dorsey
7. NE: DT Ellis
8. BAL: T Albert
9. CIN: LB Rivers
10. NO: CB McKelvin
11. BUF: WR Thomas
12. DEN: RB Stewart
13. CAR: DE Harvey
14. CHI: T Otah
15. DET: LB Mayo
16. ARI: The choices are: CBs DRC, Jenkins, Cason; RB: Mendenhall, Jones, Johnson; DEs Campbell, Jackson; LBs Connor, Groves.

For some reason...if these are the choices, I think the Cardinals take a RB here...and I think it will be one of the speed guys, Felix Jones or Chris Johnson. The one RB they might take in front of the speed guys is Stewart, if Stewart is there.

The CB to look for in Round 2, I believe, is Charles Godfrey of Iowa, Justin King of Penn. St., or Tracy Porter of Indiana.

In round three...look for a OLB/DE pass rusher like Cliff Avril, Jason Jones or Darrell Robertson...or an offensive lineman like T Duane Brown, G/T Mike McGlynn or G/T Jeremy Zuttah.

I am surprised and relieved that the Rams are bypassing Glenn Dorsey. He and Adam Carricker would make the best young DT tandem in the NFL, and would make the heart of their defense with Will Witherspoon behind them tremendous.

Chris Long is a fine talent as well...and Mike Gandy will have to handle him...but I like Gandy's chances far better than Wells' versus Dorsey.

Good for Atlanta for deciding to go with Matt Ryan. They are getting themselves one touch and competitive player.

Agree with all the above.
