When the playoffs started, I predicted Detroit over Miami in five for the ECF. That's looking somewhat less likely now.
I really can't figure Detroit out. They haven't looked sharp at all in these playoffs, and they seem oddly disengaged from the whole process. Did they peak too soon?
It will be heartbreaking if Dallas and Miami are in the finals. I think the Suns would have an excellent, excellent chance to beat the Heat. They would have home-court advantage, and they completely neutralized O'Neal in both games this season. If Miami eliminates Detroit but the Suns are stopped by Dallas, it will be a tragedy. You simply couldn't ask for a better set of circumstances for Phoenix than the way things seem to be unfolding.
I guess for that reason, I'm still sort of hoping Detroit wins. Then we can shrug and say it was "their year," and worry about whether next year's Suns team will be healthy. But as of right now, I'd have to say that this is pretty clearly the Suns' best chance at a title since the two Houston years. They're awfully close.
