seriously, you've got to be kidding me. they actually might have a shot at 70 with health.

Not a chance. You can put only five players on the floor at once. Having a roster deep with solid role players doesn't do much for a great team. Any shot Finley takes is one that Duncan or Ginobili doesn't.

Should we go after Devin Brown?

On the theory that one can never have too many backup wing players?

How about someone who can consistently shoot threes, and a lot of them...it was a pretty important piece of our offense last year.

I say we go after someone who can consistently make threes.

Nope, I'm just looking for someone who can shoot a lot of them. Maybe I'll just start calling James Jones JJ, and he'll start playing like JJ...

So Finley doesn't think our team has championship potential. Oh well. Can't wait to see the look on his face next year when the Suns eliminate the Spurs from the playoffs. At last, we can move on.

Yeah, this transformation from the brightest example of all that is good about basketball to what we have now has been nothing short of remarkable.

Hold on Chris, what do you mean by "What we have now"?

I still think we have a pretty damn good team, and I doubt we are done making additions. Losing JJ, Q, and Hunter sucks, but KT, Grant, Bell, etc, are nothign to scoff at either.

I don't know what the big deal is.

This was never part of the Suns plan anyway. Finley was damage control, the Suns had no idea he would even be available until a couple of weeks ago.

What we have now is not bad. I love our team still, and I think that they will theoretically be very good...because I believe that Amare will blossom into the best player in the league, and I think Marion and others will benefit from the presence of Thomas in the middle. The thing that worries me is the fact that our team age grew considerably and window of opportunity shrunk considerably. Beyond that, Nash is a year older, and I am always scared that he will get injured...we have few playmakers at the guard position and that would be devastating to our chances.

I am also skeptical that we will have the effective 3 point threat that we had, enough to give Nash and Amare to operate. We need to have somebody who will kill the other team with an open shot. Beyond Jimmy Jax, I am not sure if we have that.

Other than that, I think we are good to go, and I am looking forward to it. I still think that no team will ever be as fun as the group assembled last year. All of the amazing moments, Q's tip in Denver, the dagger in LA, Marion's block of Nowitzki, I mean we could name favorite moments from last year forever. The excitement of that team, running up and down the court, while other teams gasped for air because they were down by twenty in two minutes, that will never be matched. (run on sentence, but anyway)

I thought at the end of last year that there would be no chance that this team would be ripped apart...and here we are, with an older team, with Amare asking for a player option in his third year...he believes that the window will have maybe closed by that point, which may or may not be true. I understand the decisions made by Sarver and the organization, and while I've questioned them before, I admit they generally been quite successful. If I were owner, I would have made a commitment to keep JJ and Q no matter what and tried to get some cheap amnesty players for depth. I think that team would at least provide an interesting contrast to the Spurs as opposed to another team wanting to be more like the Spurs.

Mike D'Antoni on Finley's decision:

“He obviously thought that San Antonio had the best chance to win a title. We’re here to make that a bad decision. But best of luck to him.”

“You know, I’m sure it was a hard decision for him. He has a couple friends on our team that I’m sure he disappointed, but again, it’s just an opportunity for other guys to play a little bit more minutes and we have a slew of guys on the roster that are capable. Really I hate it for him that he’s going to miss a championship.”

I agree, this gives us that much more motivation to knock out the spurs, not that we needed that, but any and all are welcome

I like Finley, but I'm kinda glad he's not coming here. I really wanted to see Raja Bell rewarded with a starter's spot this year. Big fan of his.

I agree. This also gives time for Jones, Diaw and Barbosa. We need to start grooming some players that will be with Amare for the long haul. Finley is temporary. I am confident that one of the three I aforementioned will develop into something special.
