People are saying he is a checkdown charlie because Petzing is scared of him turning it over. My point is - if that is true that is a Petzing problem not a Kyler problem because under Kliff he threw downfield more often and was successful at it.

I will admit in the 2 or 3 really meaningful games Kyler has been in, it does seem like he choked. But that is so few chances it is not enough for me to conclude he will always choke.

Yeah we are 38-57 since drafting him, but you can't tell me with a straight face we were ever better than average talent wise, and most of that time well below average talent wise.
No. Those are two different topics. Kyler is checkdown Charlie when it’s time for a big play that needs yardage. That’s not scheme. That’s kyler not maximizing the play design for a first down/touchdown. In addition to that some posters believe that petzig may be calling more conservatively because he’s afraid kyler can’t execute. That’s different than kyler checking down. I’m skeptical of the latter, but 100% certain kyker is the checkdown king.

Also, 2-3 games?!? I wish I had your long term memory loss. There have been 5-6 games where kyler had a chance to clinch the division or a playoff spot or take control of the division race (Seattle game) or an actual playoff game. He pooped the bed bin every one of them. EVERY SINGLE ONE. There’s not even an outlier to cling to desperately.

And his teams have had some league average talent. A league average team with a terrific QB should be a semi-regular playoff team. The cards have not been under kylers “leadership.”

I don't think this is anything to do with Petzing. There are always routes past the sticks on 3rd and long, Petzing doesn't decide where the ball goes.
But he does frequently call draws on 3rd and long. That’s just not giving the offense an opportunity most times. I mean, I’ve obviously soured in Panicman Checkdownberg, but petzig isn’t beyond rapprochement in regards to his conservatism.

What pisses me off when they call a running play on 3rd and long is that Petzing is throwing away the chance at an easy first down. How many illegal contact penalties get called? Only five yards, but an automatic first.

There's a nonzero chance that Kyler sees 2-deep or whatever and checks into a draw play. Petzing of course is gonna stand by Kyler in his Wednesday press conference. We have been successful with that (Demercado scored a TD on it), but that's obviously a low-percentage outcome vs. Kyler deciding him and his guy can find and beat a 1:1.
