So I cleared another virus and another 30 spyware programs from my girlfriend's laptop last night and said screw it, and downloaded Firefox. I like it but she hates it for one reason, when connecting to her work email from home we're using a Microsoft webmail interface. Mine is ok although it looks different, had to do some fiddling, but she was unable to figure out how to get the look she wants and got really annoyed, frustrated and eventually mad at me for telling her to use Firefox.

Among other things she says when opened in IE she can see her inbox, sent, deleted etc, but in Firefox she can't see sent or deleted. In IE she can preview emails so the one she's highlighted some of the text of the message shows at the bottom of the screen, can't get that to work in FF.

Is it possible or is this simply a case of IE being optimized to work with webmail because Microsoft makes it, and FF can't do it?

I just got tired of having to run adaware every night and get rid of 20-30 things and wanted to see if FF really is more secure.

thanks

I can't help with the FF questions. She may just have to adjust or stick with IE for that particular item.

I use Firefox and IE. FF is only more secure because exploits have not really been created for it. I would say, however, that Firefox does not have as many 'features' to exploit as IE does.

If the webmail is Outlook Web Access (OWA) then yea, it is probably designed for IE.

You might try the Microsoft Antispyware beta (turn on all protections) to keep the spyware from coming back. I have had good results with it so far.
Also you might try Spyware Blaster, It blocks webpages known to install spyware.

There is also a program called Stinger from McAfee. It is a stand alone virus scanner that has a short list of viruses it scans for. It is pretty good at eliminating viruses and backdoors that sometimes fool other antivirus programs.

Good luck Russ.

Here is a extention that might help if you use Yahoo,MSN or Hotmail to get those buttons back:

What kind of email service is it,Yahoo,MSN.....? and how do you access it through FireFox?

It's microsoft webmail access, it's a secure service that gets you access to your work email.

I'll take a look at the extension thanks.

I am definitely seeing far less spyware since most is written to exploit IE.
