Biggest mistake was to pass on Watson and Mahomes. Wouldn't even have cost us a 2018 pick to move up a bit, just our 2017 2nd or 3rd.
No doubt they would have taken less. Moving down from 9 or 11 to 13 opposed to moving down into the mid 20s is huge in the 1st round. Also you could then trade down from 13 even further and stockpile even more picks. The Bengals at 9 didn't know what to do and just took the fastest WR on board who would've been there at 13 most likely. This was our prime spot and it wouldn't have even cost a 1st to move up, a 2nd at most. Now this year you look at 2 1st rounders for getting the 2nd or 3rd highest QB. Mahomes and Watson got a lot of poo thrown at them during the draft process, yet I have Mahomes right there with Darnold and Watson, obviously before he balled out in the NFL, just there with Mayfield. Perception is everything. Keim whiffed big-time in the 2017 draft. It was a prime spot to secure our QBoF.I don't understand this, you mean to say that the teams that trades out of their position would have taken less from the Cards so that they didn't have to move back so far? I'm not sure if I can believe that, I think the teams that moved up ahead of us paid a dear price for their gamble. So far Watson looks the part, but so did Dak and Derek Carr last year. So lets let their careers play out a bit more to say weather somebody made a mistake. I won't even comment on Mahomes as he has not even really played.
That's speculation on your part. I think the cost was going to be last year's and this year's first, minimum. There was obviously interest in the picks and the pick was going to the highest bidder. No doubt they would have taken less.
