Over the years they have let far too many greats leave without much effort to keep them. Glad those days are basically over (and even more elated it changed BEFORE we lost Fitz!)...

I'm sure the Cardinals have received many offers over the years for Fitz.

Everyone is tradable... But a first and a third for Fitz is not even close.

Agreed. If I were the Cards I'd use this "leak" to get the word out that it wasn't enough then and the price has since gone up.

In 2008 this board would've supported this trade, except for a few like me.

Truth. Go back and look at some of the threads on Fitzgerals back then if you don't believe me (talking to empty chair).

+1 on this.

Beyond it all,l people have probably been trying to trade his whole career and we instead paid the man. Good job AZ.

What is Fitz worth in a trade by the way? Two first rounders? How about a first, a second, and a good lineman? Would we trade Fitz for Joe Thomas straight up?

...Naw, I like Fitz where he is right now.

Theoretically (I'm not necessarily advocating he be traded):

I'd take 2 firsts, a mid round and a good lineman (ala Staley). Or, less in picks and a top-12 QB (for example's sake, a guy like Romo).

JMHO. Blast away.

Fitz isn't worth even half that much. We had our chance to get a franchise QB to become a deep playoff team and we wasted everything on KOlb.

Assuming it was the 09 pick, the Eagles used it to draft Maclin. Even if we packaged our first round picks together to move up, I bet the best we could do was swap with Tampa to get Josh Freeman.

Freeman and a third rounder for Fitz? No thanks.

The only franchise QB's we missed out on were when the Cardinals thought it a good idea to rally & win meaningless season finale's. I'm still sick that we could have & should have had either Manning brother:bang:

Fitz was needing a new contract at that time- hence the Iggles hope- But I remind everyone that before Fit'z first new contract - Q was offered top 5 WR money when Q and Drew refused it- because of the amount of the bonus- It would have been difficult to sign Fitz and Q to top 5 WR contracts that time!

Fitz would have been the odd man out if Q and Drew would have simply said yes! we would have had close to 30% of our cap spent on 2 WR's.

In fairness to the FO - Q had not been paid the entire 10 Million $ bonus from his first early contract - that is why they balked at their outrageous bonus money demands.
Plus Q took the lead when him and DD faked injuries to avoid OTA's.

It seems weird cause Q basically recruited Edge here against NFL Ideology- And then seen Edge benched for THT until the playoffs in 2008. Q lost the clout he once had under Denny. for good or bad.

I realize that good QBs are worth more than good WOs, but I would not trade Fitz for Romo. Fitz is a once in a generation receiver, Romo is an above average QB who gags under pressure.

I think it would be far harder to find a receiver of Larry's caliber than it would be to get a QB like Romo.

Couple of things:

1) I was not suggesting Romo for Fitz straight up
2) It's not a matter of finding a WR of Fitz's calibre. A WR of his ilk is a once in a generation, IMO. But that's not the discussion--we're not talking about replacing him with another him. We're talking about turning his uniqueness into multiple quality players to become a more complete team.

Again, I'm talking theoretically here. I am not advocating a trade.

Gags under pressure?

Fact: Romo has the highest fourth-quarter passer rating among active quarterbacks. And it’s not even close. His 102.1 rating is more than five points higher than the second man on the list, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers.

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowb...no-qb-better-than-tony-romo-in-fourth-quarter

Romo is so vastly underrated. It's unfortunate that he is on the circus that is the Dallas Cowboys. Put him on a team like the Ravens with their structure and defense and he is considered elite. Hell, put him on THIS Cardinals team and he leads them to the playoffs. If the Cardinals had a QB they'd be pushing for 10-11 wins. I'd even stretch it and say 12. The defense is that good. And Romo would make the offense so much better.

I'm so glad we got PP instead. No one else in the 1st was worth it (QB and at our draft slot)

Im more curious as to why Fitz felt the need to volunteer this information.

Whys it matter? Its just strange to me.

They say it wouldve changed the landscape of the NFL, and it would have, but not necessarily how you think. Eagles, yearly SB contenders? No.

From first hand experience, its not easy having a 100M dollar WR on your team. With Fitz, they wouldnt be able to afford half their current roster.
