Stafford yet to prove himself over course of year. Very streaky.

that some streak.... 9 games.

and this is all coming from someone who really didn't think Stafford was all that special coming out of college. He started winning me over with that game he played his rookie year against Cleveland with a separated shoulder and led the game winning drive with no time left and has just gotten better and better every year since.

Well said.

Wow. That escalated quickly to an argument that wasn't about football. I like Jason Campbell. Since you know that, you shouldn't take particular offense when I put them in the same tier of "Talented Quarterbacks with Question Marks." If you don't believe me about Matt Stafford, then listen to Football Outsiders:

Maybe there should be another tier in my QB ratings for "Promising but Unproven." That's where I'd put Cam Newton, Stafford, McCoy, and Bradford right now. Ryan Fitzpatrick might be at the top of the category. Tim Tebow would be at the bottom.

Yes. Mark Sanchez is a better QB than Matt Stafford is. And there's no question in my mind about it. Weren't you the one saying that you don't care about the stats, Matt Hasselback is a winner, and has been his entire career? That's Mark Sanchez. You don't go to consecutive AFC Championship games to open your career because you're a scrub, and you don't win two road playoff games each time.

I have Sanchez ahead of Matt Ryan on my QB rankings for this very reason.

I'm probably still over-enamored with Jason Campbell. If I were to put a bottom tier together called Eating Out of the Garbage, he'd be on top, above Kerry Collins, Chad Henne, Donovan McNabb, John Beck, Rex Grossman, and Tavaris Jackson.

Against Cleveland. Three years ago, wow, he is great!

Streaky over course of games. Watch him blow opportunities in 4th yesterday. Watch him down three touchdowns to Minny and Dallas. Streaky.

The Jets win despite their offense, not because of it. QB's in the NFL rank:

Rodgers
Brady
Brees
Rivers
P Manning
Vick
Romo
Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Matt Ryan
Matt Stafford
Jay Cutler
Josh Freeman
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Sam Bradford
Joe Flacco
Mark Sanchez
Cam Newton
Matt Shaub

I can only speak for myself here but this is how I feel FWIW.

While it might not be palatable right now, we can't give up on Kevin Kolb yet. Trying to accentuate the positives - Kolb will have a full and his first ever offseason as being the starter, we'll get Ryan Williams back, and we'll likely retool the offensive line (hoping Matt Kalil). That's quite a lot to add to the mix. Like I say, it's not palatable right here and now in October 2011, but our patience may be rewarded this time next year.

And if I'm prepared to offer that patience to the offense, I guess I'm obliged to do so to Wisenhunt as well. Again it may not be palatable, and maybe I'm too soft, but I think it's only fair. Sure I'm interested in someone like Jeff Fisher but I just feel I need to be fair and give a stay of execution.

I like your style and the folks we will have coming back next year to add to who ever we add next year. Those that are giving up on Kolb right now...that's their thing. They expect stuff to happen right away, that aint gonna happen. I plan on giving Kolb a real look, while others complain about growing pains and call it bad QB play.
Other QBs already know their system and can plan for the next week's opponent. Kolb is still getting an ear full from Whiz and Co (Miller doesn't have any say so anymore). Kolb is still getting the Az coached into him while dealing with what Az has.

A lot is on Kolb, the fact the he is getting worse sucks, but at the same time, it's happening when we resort back to our old pass and they know we are gonna pass style...with no protection it spells disaster. I like Kolb and I think he could be the guy, gonna be hard running a see through offense though.

All in good time, the people who built this crap house get to either turn it around or go down with it.

Time is on my side on this one, just sit back and let the football Gods sort it out and hope one day we get lucky enough to get a killer coach, yes they do exist and no I do not believe we have one now.

In the meantime, my decades long plot to pin this all on Rod Graves is comming along nicely, I figure just two to three more decades before the heat really turns up under his chair. :)

"As for Fitz, he should be worrying about his own position among the elite WRs in the NFL. Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson are clearly better than him." K9...mission accomplished, you got some attention

I believe that was the infamous Graves trade for BJ & Pace

Sorry Bucky, you're right, as I get older it is really getting harder to keep things straight. I still fault the O-line, and the entire lack of a defense on Whiz, because he has failed to act on those since day one.

what QB isn't streaky over the course of games? Bottom line is since his rookie year, dude's played very good football whenver he's been healthy and he's only in his 19th start. You can call him streaky, I'll just call him good and getting better.

I don't take offense to it. I just think it's an incredibly ridiculous decision that is solely based on your inability to ever admit you're wrong. Campbell's really never proven to be a winner or put up stats. the idea that he's a "talented QB with question marks" implies he's actually showcased that talent to at least some level of competence, which he's never done over a significant stretch of time.

If you don't believe me about Matt Stafford, then listen to Football Outsiders:

i'll believe what I see with my own eyes... which is a pretty talented up and coming QB who is in no way shape or form anywhere the caretaker QB that Campbell is (at best) or most of the other guys you listed in that section... and Sanchez. That's just a ludicrous opinion.

Maybe there should be another tier in my QB ratings for "Promising but Unproven." That's where I'd put Cam Newton, Stafford, McCoy, and Bradford right now. Ryan Fitzpatrick might be at the top of the category.

This I could kind of agree with... but even here, Stafford's above these guys at this point. Probably on par with Fitzpatrick, but Stafford's upside is much higher.
Tim Tebow would be at the bottom.

Yes. Mark Sanchez is a better QB than Matt Stafford is. And there's no question in my mind about it.

this is flat out insanity. i don't know how to sugar-coat my response any other way. The guy has been simply carried by great defenses and good running games. He's got a QB rating of 71.9 a TD:INT ratio of 37:38 and throws for a Derek Anderson type 56% completion percentage. i watch Sanchez and i see NOTHING special about him. With Stafford, at least you're seeing a QB growing by leaps and bounds in his third year while Sanchez still looks like a rookie... even though he's been constantly surrounded by a decent amount of talent around him and a defense that keeps him in games.

Weren't you the one saying that you don't care about the stats, Matt Hasselback is a winner, and has been his entire career? That's Mark Sanchez.

What?! I wanted Hasselback because he helped MAKE the Seahawks winners. He was a four time Pro-Bowl QB who could actually lead the team with his arm. A guy who averaged 61% completion percentage, with an 89 passer rating, 3500 yards, 23 TDs and 12 INTs. That's why he was a winner... not because he played with a combination of a great running game and the best defense in the league.

You don't go to consecutive AFC Championship games to open your career because you're a scrub, and you don't win two road playoff games each time.

Sorry dude... simply riding an all-time defense his first year (where they were only 9-7 because of how inept Sanchez was) and then having one good game against the Pats in year two doesn't prove this kid's worth when the team is constantly winning in spite of him. The Bucs continually made the playoffs, conference title games and even won a Super Bowl with the likes of Trent Dilfer, Shaun King and Brad Johnson. A great D will carry even the most pathetic of QBs. That's not to say Sanchez is pathetic, but he ain't good. If he was, they probably would have broken through to actually get to the Super Bowl with that D and running game.

I have Sanchez ahead of Matt Ryan on my QB rankings for this very reason.

good for you. I actually think Ryan's relatively over-rated. Better than sanchez, but pretty over-rated. The next big game he has in a big game will be his first.

I'm probably still over-enamored with Jason Campbell. If I were to put a bottom tier together called Eating Out of the Garbage, he'd be on top, above Kerry Collins, Chad Henne, Donovan McNabb, John Beck, Rex Grossman, and Tavaris Jackson.

and yet, you originally listed him on par with Stafford. Yeah, i'd put him on top of that scrap heap though.

So we're exactly where we were last year with Anderson, Hall, and Skelton.

Good trade! I look forward to seeing our 2012 second-round pick playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. It'll probably be the offensive lineman that we totally don't need.

Seen a mock draft yesterday that had the Eagles getting Reynolds

the BYU left tackle. I had to chuckle. One of the writers on cbssportsline

has the Cards taking Dre Kirckpatrick the Alabama corner at 7 overall.

Another chuckle.
