i have no doubt we would have scored a touchdown on that drive and went up 27 to 22,

it could have been an entirely different outcome

what might have been.....

at least it was vernan davis that killed us as usual and not Q
oh well shake it off and get ready to beat seattle on thursday

That fumble was the momentum changer. We had taken the momentum back... we were already in field goal range. It was crushing. Our defense gave up gut runs like we haven't all year right after.

Let us keep the momentum, give the d a few more minutes rest, and give us a lead and I may not be that easy for the 49ers on that march.

Yeah that was the killer. There were several wide open receivers missed on that drive along with Rob "Potential" Housler misplaying a ball on a big play as well. So many missed opportunities yesterday afternoon. Zero points off that fumble (the bogus offensive PI call) also was a killer.

It was a game changer, as well as the fumble by Smith.

But the real travesty was Floyd's 1st TD called back because of a horsecrap Offensive PI call. (which was either a no call or a DEFENSIVE PI call). Especially when one of SF's TD's had an even worse push off that wasn't called.

Then of course the next three plays we had Defensive PI...well 2 of the 3, one of them would have been tacky to call, but the refs called nothing.

This was the worst reffing we've seen since the scabs.

Also there was the last 2 minute drive where we ran 1 play and there was only 1 milnute and a couple seconds left. Why? Because the refs kept starting and stopping the clock so we had tons of extra seconds lost because of ref bs.

I'm quite sure those refs are going to be torn a new one by the league when they review the game tape. But it won't do anything for us, or give us a pity win. The refs screwed this game for us more then Palmer's 2 INT's and the two fumbles combined.

Then after not being unable to overcome from crappy reffing, Fitz fumbles trying to do too much, and Smith never would of been in there. We easily could of been up 27-22, perhaps even 34-22 and the 2nd half of the 3rd quarter and on are completely different. Stupid refs.

that's just it...good teams don't consistently beat themselves. the above statement is completely hollow when you have players who consistently make mistakes. that's not just going to magically dissappear, especially with Palmer as our QB.

If we were 49ers fans, we'd be focusing on how great of a play Willis made to knock the ball loose from Fitz. And, rightly so, it was a great play by a great player for a team that believes in each other and their coach. Teams like that tend to find the play they need just when they need it.

We had chances both before, and after, that play to change the outcome. Maybe we'll make the big play Thursday.

that quote from BA about "cardinals won't beat cardinals" in the off season is coming back to haunt him

who was it that said when another team picks up one of our players in free agency it takes a while to "coach the cardinal out of them"

it seems like there is almost a spooky losing culture and mindset that permeates this team, from coaches to players

damn pottsville!!!! :D the curse lives on

I'm sure it's partly their age, and the glasses, but Arians' has a lot of Buddy Ryan bluster to him. He hasn't lost total control of his ego like Ryan had, but I prefer coaches blowing smoke up our drawers after the team is in the playoffs. Not before they have done squat compared to even the last few miserable seasons we have had.

I am torn between the fumble and the safety and the absolutely boneheaded decision to play Fonso AT ALL on offense let alone at a critical juncture. I had just said to my buddy on the previous drive how glad I was that he wasn't playing on offense anymore really.

Carsons 2 picks to start us off changed the complexion of the game

Im sick of everyone, BA especially, dumping on Fitz when CP is the reason we were in a deep hole all game.

CPs 2 picks (and overall crap play) >>>>>> Fitz fumble

Sooooo, Carsons 2 picks resulted in 6 points and after that his overall play (after the second pick) was a QB rating of 110.8 Not really what I would call 'crap play'

Can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot and expect to win.

We need players to step up and make big plays, not big mistakes.

Then you didn't watch the game bodha because Palmer played very well after the two picks and got us the lead and the offense was clicking. We were on a deep drive to once again grab the lead when fitz had the backbreaking fumble that basically stopped all the momentum we had. We were gonna score to take the lead there either the FG at worst or a TD the way we were driving! That single play was a dagger that killed us!

I've got to give it to Fitz---he manned up after the game. It's an unusual mistake for him...but hey knew the impact it had on the outcome of the game and said so very regretfully and emphatically.

Agreed and your superstar players just can't do that. This is typical cardinal football. We just haven't learned how to win. We're not good enough to win when we turn the ball over especially in critical situations.

Zero points off that fumble...
I'm not putting the loss on Larry but if you are saying that his fumble didn't result in a TD, you are wrong. They got the ball at the 11 and then drove the field for a TD. At least a 10 point swing. Just because the play was the turning point doesn't make him responsible for the loss. The D could have stopped SF from driving the field, Palmer could have not thrown two picks and thrown passes that were good only if Fitz was 15 feet tall, etc. The fumble did result in a TD and probably was the turning point. 22-20 before the fumble with a chance to take the lead. 29-20 after the fumble & TD.
