First, I cant take complete credit for this idea since thirty-two suggested it awhile back, however, she asked me what is one band that I couldnt live without and that was the Beatles.... However, I had to make this easier for myself though and others by asking people to list five bands that they couldnt survive without... No rules whatsoever.. just that 5 of your favorite bands that have the most meaning/importance to you......

Here's mine (in no particular order)

1) the Beatles
2) Blur
3) the Kinks
4) the Who
5) Gomez

What are yours?

Good one!

Hmm. This is tough. It would have to be a diverse group of artists. Here goes ...

1. Tracy Chapman
2. Tim McGraw
3. Dr. Dre
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers
5. Queen

Honestly, I could survive without everyone but Hanson.

I would like to make an addendum and omission from my initial post...

I definitely shouldnt have excluded Buddy Holly since his music has been the most inspirational to me throughout my life along with the Beatles... To keep it a true "legit" 5 without cheating...I would remove Gomez (so complex to do, but their past 2 albums have been substandard) in order to clear a spot for Buddy Holly...

Looking at my list...I feel like I'm some aging rocker or suddenly have become too traditional.. Oh well..... :p

Ya know, from reading your posts, I would think you were quite a bit older than you really are!

Probably in regards to music I seem a lot older because I've constantly been tossed into some form a time machine to maintain my high/deep passion toward music since I'm again and again constantly disappointed by what has been released over this past decade, but I'll save that for another thread I had posted earlier today.....

I guess I embrace these 5 bands because of how influential they were/are..... that if they didnt exist... several other bands that I enjoy wouldnt either.....
Ah... I'm becoming a music snob more and more.. please dont mind me! ;)

At least you can think of 5+ bands you couldn't live without. I have been trying all day to think of 5 that I couldn't live without. Here's all I can come up with (I'm sure no one will be surprised):
  • Jimmy Buffett
  • Clay Aiken
  • Patsy Cline

If I were on a deserted island and for me to remain somewhat "sane", I would need...

1. Van Halen (obviously)
2. U2
3. Pink Floyd
4. Shania Twian
5. Patty Loveless

Honorble mention: Creed, Godsmack, Motley Crue and Lipps Inc. (no just kidding) :biglaugh:

Amen. Ryan McCombs WAS Soil. Not sure why exactly he left, also not sure why Soil never made it past XM radio air time.

IMHO- Linkin Park destroyed "rock" music with their Rap-rock nonsense, and bands like Sevendust and Evanescence came along with their soft pansy melodies mixed with Gwar type background vocals.

Soil is just plain old in-your-face, pull no punches metal. Glad I found them.

Man, I love Linkin Park and Evanescence--guess we can't agree on everything...

It's sooooo hard to pick only five...hmmmm Since I only get five, I guess I will try to mix it up a little (but I will be leaving out many faves)

In no particular order:

1. 3 Doors Down
2. Travis Tritt
3. Garth Brooks
4. Bon Jovi (don't laugh)
5. Genesis/Phil Collins (I just can't separate them)

I realize two and three are bands, but I love them! Tim McGraw is right there, too...
