Profootballtalk.com reports that teams around the league were already eyeing a potential run at free agent Joe Flacco before the NFL playoffs began.

Per PFT, there are teams willing to pay the franchise tag price -- two first-round picks and a monster contract -- in order to acquire the 28-year-old franchise quarterback. It's further confirmation that the Ravens ought to be kicking themselves for letting Flacco play out his entire contract year. To retain Flacco comfortably, the'll have to affix him with the $20-plus million "exclusive rights" tag, which will cost them both other players and negotiating leverage with Flacco. If the Ravens only assign Flacco the regular franchise tag -- worth under $15 million -- teams like Arizona and Cleveland will surely try to sign him away.

I would seriously think about paying that price. And would probably would when all is said and done.

They better pony up the exclusive tag. Flacco is perfect for the Arians offense.

Last year's superbowl winning QB will be expensive??? The guy who beat Manning and Brady in the same year on his way to the ring is going to get PAID??? Holy shnikies batman!!! Never saw that one coming....but as far as Flacco going anywhere it aint going to happen, teams don't lose their best investments, they don't trade away the hardest position to fill in the friggin game. It's like that thread somewhere in here about Boldin retiring, man, the offseason is when the "best stuff" gets on the internet.

If that is accurate, he will be the league's top paid QB.

My bad bro, I was attempting some sarcasm. :D On the really though, his contract is up right after winning the big one, so he should probably get another couple bank accounts just to hold all that scrilla. But all that money will come from the Ravens.

No worries.....I love sarcasm.

No sarcasm there, I really do:)

Man that list of the paids speaks volumes about the NFL and the QB position. That list no where near represents the League's top 10 QBS, it shows plain as day, it aint how good you are at all.... it's where your at and what Agent you have.

While the Agent has something to do with it, it's more about timing.

The Ravens offered him a contract last year - Joe said no. Does anybody know what that was?

If the Ravens don't use the exclusive franchise tag, Flacco should be gone. Too many teams need a QB and Flacco is too good and young to be passed on.

Honestly, I could see the Ravens slapping the "franchise" tag on him, and then taking the two draft picks. Draft picks are gold thiese days, Newsome makes the most out of them, and the team is transtioning as is. Two first round picks this year and next year along with not having a 20mil contract on your payroll could be nice to rebuild a roster that could be losing Ray Lewis, Cary Williams, Ed Reed, Darnell Ellerbe, Bryant McKennie, Paul Kruger, and Arthur Jones (RFA 5th rndr). That is a lot of talent heading out and this is a pretty solid defensive draft.

In the end, if there was a team that was going to take this gamble, I think it would be the Ravens.

baltimore is not letting Flacco go, nothing to discuss.

I think Ozzie Newsome being the GM makes it worth discussing.

This is the GM who wouldn't give Flacco the contract he wanted when his team did not have cap issues. Do you think Newsome is going to say that one postseason changes his opinion expecially when Newsome can now get two cost-effective first rounders to play with and can free up money to keep some of it's young free agents?

I agree that it would be shocking for the Ravens to let Flacco go, but IMO the Ravens are already transitioning, and trading Flacco would just speed the process along.

At that point flacco hadnt proved much.

If flacco is not a raven next year I will succumb to I know nothing because as I see it, he will continue being a raven. period.

Ozzie is regarded as one of the top GMs in football - if he lets a super bowl winning QB go, he doesnt deserve that consideration.
