Fox Moves Flight of the Phoenix to Dec. 17
Source: 20th Century Fox
December 6, 2004

Twentieth Century Fox has moved up its action adventure Flight of the Phoenix to December 17, it was announced today by Bruce Snyder, Fox's president of domestic distribution.

Commented Bruce Snyder: "The Aviator's move gives us a terrific opportunity to 'take an earlier Flight' as the only action adventure picture of the holiday season. And as the first plane off the runway, we'll have extra holiday playing time for a film that will have terrific word of mouth."

Flight of the Phoenix is an action-adventure in which a plane crash in a remote area of China leaves 10 people stranded. Facing overwhelming odds and not sure if they will even be missed, they must overcome a series of impossible challenges -- and an incredible twist they never could have imagined.

The movie is directed by John Moore and stars Dennis Quaid, Giovanni Ribisi, Tyrese Gibson, Mirando Otto and Hugh Laurie.

The premise of this remake seems a little far fetched. Takes place in modern times, yet these perfect strangers are flying over this harsh desert in a 60 year old aircraft on their way home??

That said, I enjoyed the original a great deal...

Why oh why did they re-make Flight of the Phoenix? The original is a very good, character-driven film with some great performances by Jimmy Stewart, Richard Attenborough etc.

This re-make looks like some sort of Road Warrior rip off. Boo!

They filmed the original out in Yuma... apparently on the same plot of land, or right near, where they filmed the desert scenes of Return of the Jedi
