Father Time waits for no one. Wilson was one of my favorite players over the last 13 years. However even Wilson can't intimidate Father Time.

2010 - 76 Solo Tackles

2011 - 48 Solo Tackles

2012 - 39 Solo Tackles

Wilson was also playing with an improving defense in front of him, which limited the necessity for him to make tackles. Tackle stats for a saftey is a pretty terrible measure.

But I guess you'd rather have Johnson's 11 tackles in 2012 than Adrian Wilson's 39.

2013 was the most sacks that Wilson had had since 2006.

Also, Wilson is 32. Yeremiah Bell is 35. Every non-monetary explanation for jettisoning Adrian Wilson falls completely apart under any scrutiny.

There's no doubt in my mind that losing Adub is a big loss. Even mentioning Bell in the same sentence as Adub is an insult. It's not just about stats--we lost a leader on the field and in the locker room. Adub has seen it all and been through it all, the highs and (mostly) lows, he's seen a lot of football. His absence will be felt.

And he instantly elevates that Patriot defense based on his knowledge and leadership alone.

Wilson is 33 and will be 34 in October.

Bell is nothing but a cheap stopgap to help with the transition. He will be playing for the Patriots next year.

Not so, my friend:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings/_/year/2012/week/0

Like many of us, we thought the 2012 Colts would be a work in progress.

On the other hand:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...9/05/season-preview-power-rankings/index.html

I'm not counting Washington, because he's not going to be available to start the season, and there's a (slim, IMO) chance that he gets additional time off for bad behavior.

In addition Acho is supposedly moving to the SOLB position. So of the top 12 defenders from last season only 4 will start the season at the same position.
Dockett, Williams,Campbell, and Peterson. And when Williams goes out on passing downs it will only be 3. I just don't see how the defense will be able to be near as good to start the season as they were last year.

At 4-4 we are generally in the 15-18 range of the power rankings. How far do we fall this week with a BYE? 10, 12 spots?

:D
