The Florida Gators defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers, 14-4, Wednesday for a second-straight midweek win via the run rule, playing just seven innings.

Blake Cyr walked it off with a two-run single up the middle, scoring Justin Nadeau and Ashton Wilsonto to satisfy the run rule. Cyr led the Gators' offense with three hits and six runs batted in, including a two-run homer in the sixth. Colby Shelton's three doubles in front of Cyr helped the Miami transfer rack up the RBIs. The duo started the scoring in a three-run first.

Brody Donay, Brendan Lawson and Shelton each finished the game with two RBIs, and Ty Evans knocked in one. Both Evans and Lawson failed to record a hit, however.

Florida A&M put together a strong second frame, scoring four runs off Florida's starter Matthew Jenkins. The Sante Fe transfer started off strong, striking out the first two batters he saw, but it was downhill from there. Jenkins allowed a two-out triple in the first that didn't hurt him, but a two-run home run in the second did. Six Rattlers reached consecutively on three walks, two singles and the homer. Jenkins walked in a run to bring Kevin O'Sullivan out to make a pitching change.

Caden McDonald got the call. Things looked grim for McDonald after a four-pitch walk to start his outing, but he settled in with back-to-back strikeouts and cruised from there. After retiring nine in a row, McDonald gave up harmless singles in the fifth and sixth, leading to a career night for the redshirt freshman. He earned the win on 4 2/3 innings of two-hit, shutout work, striking out a career-high seven while walking just one.

McDonald has a wipeout breaking ball that's going to play in the SEC at some point. These kinds of outings during the midweek are what will get him those opportunities on the weekend. McCall Biemiller struck out the side in the seventh and featured a similarly devastating breaker, one with more vertical break than McDonald's sweeping slider.
