Florida Gators under NCAA Investigation
By Jay Hendry (Florida Featured Columnist) on July 19, 2010

The NCAA's (totally justified) inquisition rolls on, and the Gators may be the latest team to feel its wrath.

Reportedly, Maurkice Pouncey, the Gators' former standout center, accepted money from an agent prior to the Sugar Bowl last year.

Between the Alabama loss and the win over Cincinnati, Pouncey was given $100,000.

If true, Pouncey would have been ineligible for the bowl game, and the Gators may be forced to vacate the win.

I mentioned it in the Bush thread on the Cards board.

Also South Carolina and North Carolina are both under investigation for football violations.

Apparently Pouncey took money after the regulars season but before the bowl game if the allegations are true, so Florida would have to forfeit that bowl game and the money from it.

Add ALA with AA candidate Marcell Dareus being ruled ineligible for going to an agent party in MIA where SC's TE Wesley Clarke and supposedly GA's WR AJ Green were also in attendance. The NCAA is going all out now, I can't stand Jason Whitlock's column about how all these athletes are being treated like slaves and the NCAA and coaches are the slave masters. What a crock of s***! These kids can leave school after 1 year in basketball or 3 years in football, keep your nose clean, get it done on the field and cash in at draft time. These kids go through life before college without money, what's another 1-3 years. Bush and other star athlete try to live like stars partying at the after hour spots so its no wonder they need money.

Yep the NCAA is enacting a new rule with the SEC, from now on they will announce which schools are NOT being investigated since the list is smaller.

Wally mentioned this before, the guy who led the nailing of USC recently the ex Miami guy is apparently REALLY going after people hard right now. The agent stuff is out of hand and the NCAA is basically saying look the NFL and NBA aren't doing enough, so we're going to force their hand by aggressively pursuing this and suspending players. That puts the onus on the NFL and NBA to rein in the agents, if players are being suspended for dealing with agents, it forces the pro leagues to take actions against those agents.
