And this is why the Pats are the best franchise - EVER. They traded Chandler Jones for a second round pick, because they knew they couldn't afford him.
Today they traded Jamie Collins to the Browns for a conditional 3rd rounder, as he too is in his last year of his deal and the Pat's knew they couldn't afford him.
The Cards inexplicably held onto Floyd and will watch him walk away netting ZIPPO in return... UGH... [emoji35]

I agree. Floyd should have been moved today - why keep him around at this point?

It's a 3rd round comp pick and not Cleveland's own pick? That's a pretty big difference considering NE might've been able to get a comp pick for him anyway. I wish this happened before the season cause Collins was a monster in week 1.

Floyd was arguably the Cards best WR down the stretch last year and teams don't usually trade their starting WR's prior to game 1. The Cards know/knew Floyd's contract demands, as did NE with their guys, and think they were in the same ball park. Second guessing is always fun, I guess, when it's something to complain about. I guess they should have traded him to Cleveland for Terrelle Pryor prior to the start of the season. That Keim guy doesn't know what he's doing.

Floyd has stunk this year but trading him, at the time, would not have been the right move. Especially with a possible Fitz retirement pending.

Right. Essentially all NE got out of the deal was their comp pick a year early. Surprised they couldn't get more.

You can't trade comp picks, it's not one of those.

FYI - I'm on record here, since last season, stating my case to dump Floyd. I've been stating the case to trade him for over a year now.

New England doesn't let prime offensive players go early, like they do their defensive players. They pay the offense, just not the defense.

There was a reason they let him walk. Read somewhere that he was a 'me' guy, not a team player.

From what I read he was freelancing on defense much to the disdain of the DC and BB.

Here's a good article on the deal: http://nypost.com/2016/11/01/patriots-trade-shock-rationale-was-ignoring-belichicks-orders/.

He was freelancing for sure... But, the money was certainly a HUGE factor... The Pats know what they're doing...

Whether you like the Pats or not you have to give them credit, they are always ahead of the curve. It would not surprise me that this was not a last minute decision especially after they acquired Kyle Van Noy from Detroit with the idea he replaces Collins. They probably already have a good idea of whom they are going to pick with that 3rd round choice too in 2017. It would not surprise me if they are already putting together draft boards with possible picks for 2017. They probably have better long range planning than any other team in the NFL. It would not surprise me if they are already keeping tabs on the 2018 and 2019 draft as well as potential FAs going out that far and who they think may fit their team and who would be the best play for them as far as signing them. Makes you wonder how far out SK looks at these things.

I don't think people are giving Keim the benefit of the doubt in regards to possible trades. Floyd and Campbell were both rumored to be on the market but there were no takers. Maybe teams were countering with low ball offers. Maybe ARZ was looking for day one or two picks but we're being countered with day three picks which if that was the case I wouldn't blame Keim for taking them off the market and going for one last run to the SB before the become FA's. Unfortunately both Campbell and Floyd have underperformed this year but at least we didn't over pay to extend them. If they leave at least that opens up cap space which is more valuable.
