Honestly I wish we would have kept him on the roster til the end of the season. (Inactive). He would have factored in for compensatory picks because SOMEONE would have signed him. Big contract or not.

Agreed. I think cutting him was an emotional reaction that cost them a pick. I doubt Belichick would have reacted that way. He likes those comp picks.

So it's sounding like they will let him walk and get the comp pick.

There has to be more to this story we have not heard yet. It wasn't just a bad season, his entire style of play changed. He seemed unable, much of the time, to catch the ball without using his body. His routes were less precise. He had more trouble than he historically did with press coverage. I've never seen a receiver fall off like this unless some impairment was involved. He surprised me when he passed the Pats' physical. It wasn't a hangover or concentration in my estimation. Something else was going on.

Not saying he did, but you cannot drink every day and be at your best on Sunday, its just not going to happen.

To get a comp pick, another team is going to have to give him a contract. That's no sure thing at this point.

This is true. With the limited number of compensation picks awarded and the contract Floyd is likely to get, I don't see him qualifying.

I think someone will pay him, but certainly nothing lucrative nor anything that'd warrant a compensatory pick higher than round 7.

There will be a couple of players on the ATL and NE roster that will get rings too without having played a down this season. Does it really matter at this point? If Floyd gets a ring fine, he got lucky. No one ever said life is fair. The FO over reacted and blew it. They could have suspended him for the balance of the season or maybe even placed Floyd on IR or just kept him on the roster and inactive him for the final 2 games. That way they could have kept him then let him walk after the season and gotten a comp pick. Instead they pulled a knee jerk reaction and cut him. They made a poor business decision. They let emotions get in the way of making smart decisions.

True. However, when MB said that MF showed no remorse, it's hard to blame MB for letting Floyd go. It just so happened that the incident coincided with the Cardinals being eliminated for the playoffs after a tough loss. Had the Cardinals still been in playoff contention or had this happened last year while the team was on its way to the #2 seed in the NFC, there likely would have been a much different resolution.

Floyd become quite the enigma this year---he heads into FA with glaring red flags. He probably will have to sign a one year prove it deal in order to reset his market in 2018.

Agreed.

Michael Floyd has had the worst season before becoming a free agent I have ever seen. The NFL is going to question why the Cardinals released him, every NFL coach was probably thinking with a change of scenery and a fresh voice they could fix Michael Floyd. But, then for Floyd to be picked up by the Patriots and then made inactive by the Pats for the AFC Championship, AFTER his poor performance in the playoffs ? I guarantee there are now GM's and head coaches saying, "If Belichek and the Pats cannot fix him, then what chance do we ?"

Cause while the Cardinals would be questioned, there are few teams in the NFL questioning what the Pats do.

Just sayin, Floyd went from worst case scenario to an almost unbelievable worse case scenario.

Didn't the Cards save like 1.7 mil in salary which should become a CAP savings which they rolled over to next year? I'd rather have the CAP room then a 7th rd comp pick.

If Floyd gets a ring this year it will probably end up on Pawn Stars in a few years...That's just the type of future I see for him...washed up, washed out, and broke.

Who cares? He did absolutely nothing to deserve the ring if he gets it and he knows it.

Agreed. And if cutting him sent a message to the team, I'm not crying over a 7th round comp pick.

He also cost himself ~$30mil in lost wages to get to a position to get that ring. His tank job followed by his DUI destroyed his free market value

Not to mention being made inactive by the Patriots for the Playoffs. That ain't going to help either. Not at all.

I see this a lot on the NBA board and didn't know it was the same for NFL fans as far as wishing good veterans get a ring. Fitz had his shot and the Cards came up short, that was his shot. I don't think any player, regardless of tenure, personality, or whatever deserves a title or a shot at a title because they're good guys who've had an impactful career. The truly great earn their shots at titles and convert them also. I think Fitz has reached the stage where he's too old and isn't as talented as he was to lead the Cardinals to the postseason or beyond on his own, his best chance is signing elsewhere because I doubt the Cardinals compete for a Super Bowl this next season with Palmer as their QB.
