John Clayton says that's the asking price but says it's unlikely any team will deal for him before tomorrows deadline.

Says SD will not give Fonoti a long term deal so he'll leave after this year if he's not traded.

I'd say that might be too steep given he's out 1-2 more games with his hand and he's not in the best shape. If he comes back he could be a steal but it's a risk he's not known to stay in shape.

Not for a 4th, or maybe if he signed a nice cap friendly long term deal to go with it. I dont know. Not really for this year since he is injured a few more weeks, just as a move to make sure he is secured before he hits FA and other teams have a shot at him.

At best he's going to play 8 games for someone, no idea how long it takes a guard to learn a new offense but my guess is as you say not going to happen.

He did say there were 3-4 teams talking but all would want a long term deal in place and he considered that unlikely given Fonoti's current health.

I am officially off the "behemoths on the offensive line" kick

We get these monstrous offensive linemen and just assume that because they are huge, they will just drive defenders out of the way.

What we miss is that when we try to trap, pull, etc, defensive players seem to get to the spot quicker

My pov is that I would rather have a really athletic 300 lb lineman than a lumbering 340 ish player

:bhiich: 4th round pick, thats hit and miss. Probaly less then 15% of 4th round picks acually pan out and start in there career.

Make the 4th conditional on his physical and playing time, and sign him to a deal, and that would be a STEAL. Fonoti is a BEAST of a run-blocker, and is exactly what we need.

NFL Live just reported he was traded to the Vikes for a 7th Rounder.
This makes me sick to my stomach. A 7th rounder? Jeez, we gotta try and do a deal like that--I'm really dissappointed we didn't.

Ditto. What's the worse that could happen, we miss out on drafting practice squad fodder?

The part that bugs me is I would say well Fonoti doesn't fit our style of guard, except that Minnesota made the trade, we run the SAME system they do, and their coach is Mike Tice who coached the OL for Dennis Green for years. So if he fits Mike Tice's style, he certainly fits ours unless we're changing that style?

You know what its not even the fact that we didnt go after Foniti that is making me mad, but rather that we didnt go after anyone at all. You would think we dont have 11 guys on IR or are not a 1-4 team trying to get as many fans as possible going into a new stadium or something.

How many 7th rounders, other than Navarre, last here. At least Fonoti has strength and can block big time. Just what we need to get a running game going.
He was out all of 2003 with a foot injury. Then, came back last year to be All-Pro. Should have picked him up and worked out a deal for next year.

Isn't the guy supposed to be a head case? I have never read any good reports on him mental-wise.

It is called giving up on the season, but not saying anything.

Don't be angry because we didn't get him there were 30 other teams that didn't trade for him. Our O-Line looked nice last week. We will be fine for the rest of the season with the guys we have and we really needed help at DE and CB.
