I don't really want to get into draft talk already, but I also didn't want to bump up the ungainly Matt Barkley thread, either. I found this in-depth analysis of Wilson to be interesting to check out:

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/futures/2012/futures-tyler-wilson

FO's takeaway:

Making throws under pressure or following up a bad play with a good play under difficult conditions is a sign of the aggressive, aware, and gutty mentality that defines good NFL quarterback play. Tyler Wilson may have deficiencies that could potentially keep him from reaching this summit, but he flashes enough skill, athleticism, and toughness to create transcendent moments. It’s why Wilson is one of the top-five quarterback prospects heading into the 2012 college football season.

Check your facts, bub.

http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=322520008

The Razorbacks played the second half without first-team All-SEC quarterback Tyler Wilson, who suffered a head injury after taking several big hits in the first half.

Wilson, who also missed the second half against New Mexico last season with concussion-like symptoms, was 11 of 20 passing for 196 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game at halftime.

I don't even watch college football, and I knew this. Do you really think there's an FBS QB who attempts 20 passes in a college game if they don't run the triple-option?

As long as they're not coked up and visiting Charlotte clubs the night before the most important interview of their lives. :D
He had a bad mentor in this guy:

Sounds like he has a history of concussions as a QB. Sounds familiar for some reason I just can't put my finger on it. :stick:

Not to mention the pounding he took was from a bottom 10 FBS program in Louisiana Monroe, so it's safe to say hell take bigger hits in the NFL. I domt doubt Wilson is good but the Louisiana Monroe game is as good a counter argument as any and shouldn't be discounted so easily. 50% in a half of play is still 50% accuracy against lower tier competition.

give me Barkley and his ungodly accuracy all day long.

Matt Barkley surrounded by 6-8 NFL players and a handful of 1-3 round picks against the Pac-10... Hm...

Tyler Wilson playing against the finest conference in college football in a second-tier program.

I wouldn't spend the #1 overall pick on Barkley or Tyler Wilson. I wouldn't give up a Pro Bowl corner and 2nd round pick for Tyler Wilson, either. Nor am I prepared to give Tyler Wilson a six-year, $60 million contract with $20 million coming in the first two years. I would spend the 14th overall pick on Tyler Wilson. I'd probably spend the 6th overall pick on Tyler Wilson and a contract that's going to be $20 million guaranteed over 4 years.

It's apples and oranges comparing Wilson and Kolb. I feel more confident in my (tentative) evaluation of Wilson than I am with Barkley.

To me Tyler Wilson is the best QB in the next draft, and I would totally lose it if the Cardinals were in a position to draft a QB and they took freaking Barkley.

I think the killing of Barkley because he plays at SC is a lazy argument. Should you view his numbers more skeptically? Perhaps. Barkely was also the #1 QB coming out his year in college and is pretty damn talented himself. By this logic NO USC QB can be or eve will be good because they have talent around them.

There are two things I love about Barkley. His leadership skills. I know moxie is a bad word around here but when you combine A+ intangibles with well above average skills and talent you have a winner.

And I love. repeat love his accuracy. The numbers dont do him justice in this regard. The way he places the ball on left shoulder pads, or outside the numbers, or to guys in full stride is really incredible. Hell be way over 70% this year and was 69% last year. To me this is the biggest indicator of future NFL success. If you can put the ball in tight spots in a major conference, the chances are you will be able to do the same in the NFL.

Not to mention he would have stud wideouts here in AZ as well. Im pretty sure I would take Fitz over Lee or Woods comparatively speaking.

And I don't know why you dismiss a history of concussion talk so easily either. If its something that concerns you at #1, it should also concern you at #14. He gets even one in the NFL and it could be a BIG problem.

To each his own though. I like em both but Ill take trading up for Barkley at 1 rather then drafting Wilson at #14. JMHO.

Tyler Wilson is my favorite QB coming out in next years draft and the guy who I hope the Cardinals agressively pursue. However, I felt the same way about both Melvin Ingram and David DeCastro last draft and we ended up with Michael Floyd.

Back to Wilson, I really like the poise he shows and his agressive approach to try and create big plays. That is what we need on this team from our QB.

Geno Smith is the guy I would want. Hopefully he doesn't rise into the top 10 picks before the draft but I have a feeling he will. Very accurate, quick release, with a more than adequate arm.

Then you should also know this kid has a history of concussions.

Pass.

Two concussions in two years? Aaron Rodgers has the same or worse history of concussions. Would you take a pass on him?

Reports are that Wilson has already been cleared to practice for the Arkansas game. I'm more concerned about Kolb's inability to come back from concussions (and his decision-making in not adopting the Riddell Revolution helmet after his concussion(s) in Philly) than I am about guys suffering from them.

I think this is going to be a good year to draft a QB. Everyone knows about Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson & Landry Fields but guys like EJ Manuel, Geno Smith & Logan Thomas would really look good in a Cardinals uniform.

He's working with an entirely new WR corp and was victimized by some early drops. He doesn't have a history of concusssions. And, instead of going by stats, watch him play. watch these highlights. The 3rd hit they show him taking, at the 36 second mark, was a perfectly thrown TD pass.

I'll have to watch him again. Every time I have seen him play, I wasn't impressed, but that was last year. I've been reading good reports on him and cbs has him going to the Cards with pick 12 in their mocks.

As for Logan Thomas, I just don't see it.

My top 5 QB's(going on what I have seen/read this year) right now would be:
1- Wilson-easily the best NFL QB. NFL= Rivers
2- Ryan Nassib from Syracuse- very impressed with arm strength. NFL = Flacco
3- Geno Wilson- pending further review :D NFL = Locker
4- Aaron Murray- I've always liked him but he just never seems to take the next step. NFL = Would like to say Brees but he's not that good, Dalton
5- Tyler Bray- impressive so far. Kind of reminds me of Mallett in college. NFL = Josh Freeman

Matt Bustley would be in the next group. I know he puts up some gaudy stats but he's all hype. You put any of the above QB's on USC and they'd likely put up better numbers, at least very similar. NFL = Brady Quinn

Obviously that will change and will in no way be the order in which they are drafted. Another guy I like is Zac Dysert from Miami-Oh.

FO's takeaway:

Wow K-9 you definitely have my attention. I watched part of their last game and was hot and cold with him. I also believe that he left injured, but can't remember to what extent he is hurt. I absolutely like Brady's analogy about rather being able to pull back an overly aggressive QB, than to develop a Check-Down-Charley. I believe that Leinart is all the proof one needs to determine that. You have widened my eyes on this kid with this article though, and I will be looking for more of him this year. Thanks.

So now it is okay to like QB's from Arkansas? :)

Today on the NFL Network they feel that the Arkansas is the best QB coming out of this coming draft. Felt the USC QB might be just above average. Not a strong arm and only 6'-2" tall.

Good pick up Mulli.

Cowherd, on his radio show today, also said that Wilson is best QB prospect to enter the NFL for the next 2 years. He kind of said the same thing alot of us have been saying about Barkley, good kid, good leader, average prospect. In fcat, he was lamenting on how bad the QB class, after Wilson, really is. I agree, although I have to re-visit Geno, I think the QB's are mostly all hype and all have major question marks.
