I'm watching excerpts of a Whitey Herzog roast on Fox Sports Midwest a couple of nights ago. Jim Hanifan makes an appearance. He recounts a jousting session with Whitey where - while comparing the merits of the two Cardinal teams in StL - Hanifan pipes up: "Well what the hell. You had Augie Busch. I had Billy Bidwill."

Warranted or no, it was a totally uncalled-for and classless comment by Hanifan (who used to be the former Cardinal head coach). Even if it might have been all in fun when he said it, he didn't have to bring it up years later.

I really hope we wax the Rams and that someone in the stands will have a sign ready for the 4Q that reads something like: "Hey, Hanny. Wanna coach for Mr. Bidwill now?"

The beer people sold the baseball Cardinals cuz of escalating salaries. Looks like Mr. Bidwill is putting the effort in for a winner.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Yeah, Bidwill's (Sr.) reputation as tight-fisted is not undeserved. The years around 1980 and 1990 were particularly brutal.

But I think what Billy really, really wanted was a new stadium, and he felt he got mistreated first in STL, and then again (initially) in AZ.
