I have been critical of the Cardinals and their direction so far this offseason. That being said, if they can come out of today with Rashad Mendenhall, Rey Maualuga, Antoine Cason, and Jerraud Powers AND not sign any to stupid contracts, I will be happy.

Yeah, it would be hard to criticize any of those signings. Still plenty of holes to fill, but better not to do anything nuts.

Agreed! No superstars but at the right price all four make some sense. And Rashard Mendenhall is a much more complete and accomplished back than Beanie Wells showed during his Cardinal career IMO.

1/4. 3 more to go. It would be hard to sign 4 value contracts in the 2nd day of FA though. IMO

Drafting Warmack would only make the Mendenhall signing even sweeter IMO.

Still hoping for LaRon Landry too.

But doesn't that just put us right back where we were a month ago with the same team needs and no cap space to address them?

If we combine them with the release of Kevin Kolb and Jay Feely, then we'll have plenty of cap space and the same needs that were manageable through the draft.

We basically would've tread water while shedding one player that the organization didn't like (anymore) in Wells.

...and then we cut Rhodes. They are called "safties" for a reason. I want a new plan because this one sucks.

Chopper, how important is continuity for a secondary. Does there need to be a good connection between the Corners and Safeties in coverage.

Or do they each have individual zone or other coverage responsibility that doesn't depend on knowing where the other guys are going to be?

My limited understanding of NFL pass defense indicates to me that the longer a group played pass defense together the better they would get.

Veteran safties are valuable because they are the last line of defense for the defense. Ray Horton was absolutely correct when he said that the secondary is so important because if it makes a mistake, the defense gives up a touchdown. Safeties have to communicate with CBs on who to pick up on crossing routes or when teams flood a specific zone. Inexperienced or poor safeties lead to players running wide open down the field and two defensive backs covering one guy.

The secondary is like the offensive line in the fact that continuity can hide a lack of talent. Teammates knowing which oppossing payer the other is going to take and trusting in that teammate to be in the right spot is vital for a productive secondary.

put those characters between
