The consensus in the broadcasting industry is that DTV will struggle to maintain their grip on the NFL. AT&T has announced it will spin off DTV to a new owner and will not try themselves to negotiate an extension of the contract that experts after 2022. It’s questionable AT&T, being in financial constraints, would do this if DTV were a cash cow. That means the new owners would have to belly up the money with no guarantee of quick compensation. Companies like Amazon will surely up the ante making deep pockets essential. We’ll know more when the DTV buyer is disclosed but change seems unlikely to lead to renewal of the existing package. This still won’t likely result in a significant price adjustment but it may mean the package can be independently purchased. So you wouldn’t need that pricey DTV subscription with all the hidden extras that push up your bill.
