Psalms 23:1
Former Sun Devil standout Cain Velasquez will be fighting Brock Lesnar this Saturday for the UFC Heavyweight Title.
Velasquez, an All-American in 2005 and '06, notched 77 wins for ASU in two years. He has transitioned his success on the mat to a successful MMA career, winning each of his first 8 fights, with 7 of them coming by way of knockout.
In his most recent victory, Velasquez knocked out the notoriously difficult to finish Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira, handing the Brazilian only the second knockout of his storied career.
While Lesnar will clearly face the size advantage, Velasquez has the speed and quickness, and IMO is the better all around wrestler and fighter than Lesnar.
If he is victorious, Velasquez will be the third ASU wrestling alumnus to win a title in a major MMA promotion, joining Dan "The Beast" Severn (who won the UFC Superfight Championship in 1996) and Dan Henderson (who won titles in the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight division under the Pride banner).
