The wrestling career of lightning-rod performer A.J. Ferrari is going from coast to coast.
Ferrari is leaving Cal State Bakersfield for North Carolina, he announced Monday.
In typical showman fashion, Ferrari teased the listeners of FloWrestling Radio Live as he made his announcement.
He initially told the show he was committing to Penn State and moving to the heavyweight class, playing along briefly until changing course and saying he was committing to Iowa, where younger brother Angelo wrestles.
But after a couple minutes of playing out the joke, he announced North Carolina as his new home.

After taking third place at the NCAA Championships last month in Philadelphia, Ferrari was open about his plans to test the transfer portal. On Sunday, he posted a list of his eight final schools — including Oklahoma State and OU — though it was unclear if he had been recruited by, or received offers from, all eight programs.
Ferrari was listed as a redshirt sophomore this past season, meaning he has two years of eligibility remaining. He has said he could have an additional year if granted a waiver from the NCAA.
Ferrari was a national champion at 197 pounds for Oklahoma State in 2021. The following year, he was undefeated in late January when he suffered significant injuries in a car accident south of Stillwater and missed the rest of the season.
In July 2022, he was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a Stillwater woman. The charges were dropped in October 2023. Ferrari did not return to college wrestling until last fall at Cal State Bakersfield.
