Former Wisconsin basketball guard Luke Haertle announced his transfer commitment to South Dakota State on Saturday.
Haertle entered the portal earlier this month after one season at Winona State (Division II). The former walk-on at Wisconsin broke out in a primary role with the Warriors, averaging 35 minutes (team-high), 17.2 points (team-high), 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists (team high) while shooting 44.5% from the field and 28.9% from 3. He also led the team in steals (56) and blocks (14).
The Hartland, Wisconsin, native now joins South Dakota State with two years of eligibility remaining. Haertle previously appeared in 11 total games over two seasons at Wisconsin (2022-24). Those appearances included just 11 minutes of playing time, one shot attempt and two rebounds.
The 6-foot-4 guard now commits to a South Dakota State program that has recently become a popular destination for former Wisconsin transfers. Guard Isaac Lindsey played his senior season there in 2024-25 after three years with the Badgers. The Jackrabbits are also currently led by forward Matthew Mors, who transferred to the program in 2022-23 after redshirting as a true freshman at Wisconsin in 2021-22.
Haertle's transfer commitment is a clear step up in competition level. He's jumping from D-II up to a program that has made two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last four seasons, has 91 combined wins in that time and, overall, is established as one of the best in the Summit League.
Wisconsin's transfer movement has quieted down recently after a flurry of commitments earlier this month. The program is still in search of depth across the roster, especially in the frontcourt. For more on the program's offseason transfer movement, bookmark our transfer commitment tracker.
