Wisconsin transfer guard Camren Hunter is returning to Central Arkansas, he announced on his Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.
Hunter previously spent three seasons with the Bears (2021-24) before transferring to Wisconsin for the 2024-25 season. He was a key contributor during the first two of those campaigns, starting a total of 60 games while averaging a combined 15.5 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He then missed the entire 2023-24 season due to injury.
The 6'3" point guard played a limited role in his one season with the Badgers. He appeared in 11 games, playing a total of 23 minutes and tallying just three points, five rebounds and an assist. He and four-star freshman Daniel Freitag, who also recently entered the transfer portal, were on the outside of the team's regular guard rotation. Both players entered the portal in search of a larger role and workload, especially with Wisconsin projected to add transfers at the position over the next few weeks.
Hunter returns to a Central Arkansas program that went 9-24 in 2024-25 in its fourth season in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The now-former Badger will play his final season of eligibility in 2025-26, looking to replicate his previous success with the program.
Hunter, Freitag and veteran forward Chris Hodges are Wisconsin's three transfer departures to date. They join a large departing senior class of Max Klesmit, Kamari McGee, Carter Gilmore, Steven Crowl, John Tonje and Markus Ilver.
That significant roster movement gives Greg Gard several available scholarships to fill with experienced transfers, with the program's incoming high school class as a complement. The Badgers are already trending for a top transfer guard, with several more top targets still uncommitted.
Wisconsin will look for a similar impact that it received from last year's transfer class of Hunter, Tonje and Xavier Amos. While Hunter failed to crack the regular rotation, Tonje delivered an All-American season, one of the best in program history. Amos is also among several ascending players in line for a big role next season.
