There was talk on the site suggestions forum about breaking this forum down into three or more categories: Books, Music, Gaming

Mainly because, I'd like to see it like the TV/Movies forum, where books/games/bands have their own threads for continued discussion.

So let's talk about it and vote.

Do we split it up, or keep it the same?

And if we split it up...what do we call this? The Hobby forum, the Entertainment forum with sub-forums?

Ideas people!

I'm all for a split, but if you do, someone has to go through this forum and move every thread into one of the new forums. This forum could then be removed.

Split. I say you just create subforums, (books, music, video games) and place it under "Other Stuff."

I had suggested awhile back calling this the "Multi Media Forum" so also we can discuss radio (other than sports radio), magazines, websites, and other form of media (besides TV). The reason it didn't progress was at the time I couldn't think of a "description" that was deemed acceptable by the other party (he didn't want it to sound negative by saying, all media, but tv.)

I think now expanding this forum and including TV and other performance arts (such as stand-up Comedians, Symphony, the Arts, Ballet, Opera, etc) would be interesting.

Therefore, movies, books, and perhaps even video games can have their own respective forums somehow. I believe this is all worth considering.

/agree

My personal opinion is to split the forums up. It shouldn't be too difficult of a process. The only concern I can think of is if it will create a storage size issue for the database in general, which, if memory serves, wouldn't be the case with VB Bulletin.

I said no for one reason.. If there is gonna be a sub forum it will get irritating like the food sub-forum is in the health forum.. If all the new posts are from the health side and your waiting to see a reply in the food youll have to go into the health then click on the food just to see.. Its a pain in the ass man lol..

I say no only because this forum doesn't seem to have the traffic the others do.

You know, if you subscribe to a thread, you can see all replies to all your subscribed-to threads by going to your User CP and just seeing them there :)

I don't come here very much because it's too disjointed to pay attention to books people are reading, music, etc.

At the bottom of this forum is a link to our board's RSS feed. If you set up a reader, like Google Reader, you can have all new threads appear in one place, on your reader, even read the entire content of it, without leaving Google.

I use that now when I'm looking for new threads.

IMO - there are way too many forums here already. No need to continue to add more.

Probably in the minority, but thats cool.

I'd go for a split of electronic vs nonelectronic entertainment (sneaky way of pushing a books only forum). :p

I don't think you can just use traffic as the only indicator. I mean, I don't post many times in certain forums because I hate weeding through the more generic forums just to get to the stuff I am interested in. I just don't bother with it. If things are better organized I bet more people would post.

I think Books, Music and Video games is an odd pairing myself. I also think Technology is a little vague.

I would place under Technology (PC's, Home Theater, Video Games) as sub forums.

You could also change the main forum to Multimedia Entertainment (Books, Music, Video Games) as sub forums.

If people don't want sub forums then just do some realigning. Remove Games from the current forum and have:

Tech, PC's, Home Theater and Games. At least then, those topics would be much better aligned.

MESA! :thud:
I think it's fantastic.

I guess it's a "can't please everyone" kind of situation.

I win! :D
