Both of your points are valid but if there's traffic coming from obvious areas like Russia or China you can probably safely just block IPs originating from those areas

What’s funny about this is that I tried to log in to the official Cardinals board while on vacation in Hong Kong and China and had my account locked as a result

Poison: I didn't want to post to the spam message (the one about urinating) and so started this separate thread on Spam. Didn't want others to open it and didn't want the message to vanish when the moderators deleted the message. Also, wasn't trying to call you out on answering the spam---I still have my fingers crossed on helping those hundreds of people who asked me for money to help them launder their millions to the US.
It's all good GimmedaBall, just aggravating to see this crap.

So, you're the one that's posting all the spam?

My company uses WordPress for their company sites, the amount of spam comments and bots trying to guess username/passwords that get thrown at them every day is insane. You can try blacklisting IP blocks but it doesn’t even matter tbh, it’s a never ending war. We use a popular spam filter that looks at multiple blacklist databases etc and we still have spam comments getting through daily and the amount of comments they block is massive.

Mods---Thanks for taking the time to respond. Ditto all the nerds who chimed in with their knowledge of the situation.
