Yeah, I'd take a guy who can miss two and then make that kick in OT. That was a hell of a kick.

BTW. What a gut punch of a loss for the Packers fans. Two guys fail to cover a fumbled punt, that they get their hands on, with about 2:00 in regulation. And, then, their hero, throws a gawdawful pick in OT to set up the defeat.

:biglaugh: Happens to every kicker at some point in their careers. There really is no such thing as a reliable kicker if Vinatiarri could have a year kicking the 70% range.

I think Coughlin may have killed him if he missed. BTW, i wanted Coughlin as our choice instead of Green a few years back. THe guy has been a winner everyhwere. Once he gets rid of the whiny players, his teams win.

No kidding. In all fairness to him, kicking in the cold is unreal. Your leg is stiff, the wind is bad and on top of everything, that ball is like a big rock. His foot will be purple for a week. I was telling the family that it was only fair that he made that one before the snap. He would have been crucified in NY had he missed again. I saw an interesting stat during the game that no kicker had ever made a 40+yd kick in GB in the preseason.

Same here.

What might have been????????

Well, for starters, we probably would've drafted Manning instead of Fitz. After that, who knows? I still think coaching the Cards causes brain damage.

As if Manning would have signed here if drafted. He refused to play in SD because of their history. What do you think he would have done if he was drafted by AZ? Plus, he was drafted #1 overall, Fitz was #2.

Fitz was #3. Robert Gallery went to Oakland at #2.

It wasn't their history...it was Marty and Martyball. Archie wanted NOTHING of that.

I contended then, and still do, that Eli would have come to AZ.

The Mannings were open about the fact that Archie played for a perrenial cellar dweller and they were trying to get Eli in a winning situation. I never heard Marty ever mentioned. And if they had a problem with Marty, you think they wouldn't have had one with the Bidwills and the team with one playoff win in the last million years? No way in hell. Either way, we'll never know because the Cards drafted #3 and got the best WR in the NFL so IMO it all worked out for the best.

IIRC, the main reason was ownership of the Chargers were notorious for being cheap. Can't remember exactly, but I think they were trying to get Rivers to sign a contract based on incentives like winning superbowls and getting mvp's or something ridiculous like that.

Lot of truth to that...ya know it was his son in law who was called for holding when Bradshaws TD was called back...what would he have done to him if they lost.

I was rooting hard for the Pack, but nice to see Coughlin win WITHOUT TIKI and his big mouth. Let's watch the spin TIKI puts on this. He bad mouthed Couglin and blamed him for retirement. He thought nothing of Manning (take note fans, sometimes it takes a bit long to learn a trade than it does others...get my drift).

somewhere there is a quote from Archie regarding the prospects of the Cardinals drafting Eli and if he would go there: "I have a lot of respect for Denny Green."

People took that to mean "Yes, we would go there"

Yup. Ain't it satisfying? Ah, sports hatreds are so deliciously good, when rewarded.

Back to reality. Except for that one nice long pass and run for a TD, the Packers were completely dominated, beginning to end and the score doesn't accurately reflect that domination.

The right team won. Always does.

Not always. See Arizona vs. Washington, 2007.

Don't know about that. Coughlin isn't a personnel guy. The Giants have a strong GM (or had one when they hired Coughlin). I forget his name right now, but he was on the verge of retirement and Manning was his one big deal and gift to the franchise before he left.

One great thing about General Managers with personnel background and experience is that it frees up your coaches to coach and game plan and not constantly tinker with the roster.

As I remember, Eli didn't want to go to San Diego because A.J. Smith and Marty hated each other, and I think that maybe Marty wanted Eli and Smith wanted Rivers and the Manning family thought it would be a terrible situation to be in.
