Has Kris Dunn even been mentioned anywhere for us? This is the first I've heard of him being on our radar.

I haven't heard Dunn mentioned before as a possibility. His stats tailed off with the Bulls last season.

This is my understanding what the Suns have to work with. I'd like to know if this is correct.

Mid Level Exception= $9,258,000

Bi-Annual Exception= $3,804,150

NBA Minimum= Varies upon years of experience.

Edit: The Room Exception= $5,005,350 does not apply as it is for taxpayers.

I was stunned to read Saric was only in his fourth season last year! He seems like he's been around forever!! LOL!

This is what the Suns roster and salary situation looks like at the moment. This totals $105,396,273.

The salary cap is $109.1 million.

From Duane Rankin at the Arizona Republic:

  • Chris Paul ($41.3M)
  • Devin Booker ($29.4M)
  • Deandre Ayton ($10M)
  • Mikal Bridges ($4.3M)
  • Cam Johnson ($4.2M)
  • Dario Saric ($5M qualifying offer)
  • Jevon Carter ($1.9M qualifying offer)
  • Jalen Smith *($3.5M)
  • Cameron Payne ($1.9M)
  • Abdel Nader ($1.7M)
  • Elie Okobo ($1.6M)
  • *realgm.com projections.

How are we identified as an "over the cap" team, then?

And he is only age 26. If the Suns keep him the Cam Johnson trade looks that much better.

We either have the MLE and BAE, if we are an over-the-cap team, or else the RE if we are an under-the-cap team.

Cap holds?

I'd like to know if the Exceptions are correct and can they be split. My understanding is they can be if necessary.

So this is the updated Exception amounts:

Mid Level Exception= $9,258,000

Bi-Annual Exception= $3,804,150

NBA Minimum= Varies upon years of experience.

The Room Exception was for tax payers which the Suns are not.

It does seem like he has been around forever.

Going over the cap makes sense because of the players they want to keep--Carter and Saric. They still have Bird Rights with Baynes I think. So there is that possibility even if unlikely. Kaminsky and Diallo are renounced so that is gone, which is fine.

They really need more contracts in order to be active on the trade market.

How many years can the MLE be?

To my knowledge the Suns have not renounced their rights to Baynes, so there is a chance he could be used in a sign and trade. It's not likely, but a possibility if the right opportunity presents itself.

Clearly the FO doesn't want him back, which is kind of puzzling. Outside of his injury issues and foul proclivity, he's was an effective backup, who probably burned out because of overuse. He'd also allow us to focus the rest of our resources on guard and wing.

I don't think so. As suggested by the name, the Room Exception is for those teams with room under the Salary Cap.

As I understand it, the Room Exception is for taxpayers and is the lower MLE amount ($5,718,000).

I made that correction earlier.

If the Suns accomplished all three of these, I would be beyond impressed.

I think that is actually doable.

It depends on how motivated Grant is to get paid. But even if he is motivated, the knicks aren't paying him, and if Detroit is resigning Woods they aren't either.

Atlanta has John Collins as a starter, so I don't know that that makes sense for him either.

For months now it has been pretty apparent that Miami was going to overpay for Grant. Maybe that's changed.

The scuttlebutt I've read on Twitter seems to think he's in line for 20 million a year. I'd be shocked if he had or chose to settle for the MLE, considering he hasn't really cashed in yet.

Also, I just realized last night that he is Harvey Grant's kid, Horace's nephew. It makes me feel old.

Suns might be able to get players like Millsap and Plumlee.

Trail Blazers were rumored to be interested in Millsap but they have Covington.
