Man, I feel like a kid looking forward to Christmas!! I wonder what kind of "presents" we're going to get?? ...And here's the thing: For all our draft "speculating", (which has been fun) the players we pick up in in FA could put a whole new slant on things. If we get J. Tait, do we need to draft a RT?? ie: R. Gallery. NO. If we get A. Winfield or A. Bryant or even both, do we draft a CB?? Probably not! I do think that Coach Green w/ his charismatic personality is going to convince a few quality players that the Cards are going to be this years Bengals/ Cubs. Hey, he's already gotten us believing (...Or at least being hopeful) when obviously past results don't exactly paint a pretty picture. Here's a couple "Posts" I read. Not actualy "news-print" but of interest. Word is Al Davis wants to make a pitch for T.O. If so, would the Raiders STILL draft a WR?? ...And I read that W.Harris (CB-Colts) has "aching-knees", so I think I'd pass on him. Thoughts?? GO CARDS!!

I want a CB. Specifically, I want Antoine Winfield from Buffalo. Sign Winfield and nobody else and we just got better by giving up 3 fewer first downs per game.

Winfield doesn't get many picks but he provides tight coverage andv is the best tackling CB in football, IMO. No WR spins away from him to get 3 yds more and a first down. If the WR catches a short pass, Winfield drops him on that spot.

Sounds good Skkorpion.

I agree that Winfield would help alot. Note: "The Scorpion" is a really cool villain in the Spider-Man books.l Cool name. "Beware the sting of the Scorpion'"!!

I'm with Skkorp on Antoine Winfield. With him, Starks, Wilson, and Renaldo, the CB position will have above average talent and depth. But being that he is probably the top CB in the FA market (other than those who have been tagged), I see Graves having to get into a bidding war to obtain him and Michael B. has said overpaying free agents will not happen anymore. We'll have to wait and see.

I still say look for the possible immediate signing of Chris Villareal to start off the free agency period.

Then start the process for Winfield. I wouldn't expect him to sign right away ANYWHERE, but play the market a little before then taking what he feels is the best offer.

From there, I really don't know what to expect....I think a lot will depend on how the first two go. I would also think they bring in another upper echelon CB and not just put all their eggs in one basket with Winfield.

The main question, to me, would then be....if they do sign Winfield, then how much money is left to work with?

I would like to also see them maybe try to work out some kind of trade for Northcutt.

I think he would be a great fit here. And Although I'm sure not going to complain if Fitz is drafted, but it would take a lot of pressure off "Having" to draft him or one of the Williams.

To me the DE/DT situation would run somewhat secondary to these, and thus be dependant on them. (other than Villareal, which I don't think will effect much else except maybe eliminate Gallery as a top consideration.....which I have seen no indication of anyway.

With so many teams having money to spend, I think the first week will be very, very active. Hopefully, we have a strong plan to target who we want right off the bat.

He's my probably my all-time favorite player at Ohio State. His senior year against Michigan it seems like he had aout 20 tackles.I remember Keith Jackson saying "give me 11 of him and i'll go play anybody." I agree that WHEN we get Winfield we just made our whole defense alot better. How many CB's can make you better against the pass AND the run? Just think,if we get Winfield, draft Sean Taylor, and move Wilson to CB we'll have on ethe most feared, hardest hitting secondaries in the league. Starks and Hill can be the nickel backs and Jackson can man thet FS spot. That's the main reason i'd take Taylor at 3.That and he's the best player in the draft.

I agree on Winfield. I wouldnt jump out there and start throwing money at the kid, plenty of teams will want his services so unless he is dead set on playing somewhere even before there is an offer, dont expect the Cards to rush right in and raise the stakes so to speak.

Northcutt, I dont know what to think. Cleveland seems to be playing hard ball and has said Northcutt will need to honor his contract now. Thats too bad for him and the Cards. His speed would have looked good in Cardinal red. Maybe he will threaten to hold out and the Browns will trade him but I havent heard anything from Northcutt's camp on this...has anyone??

Are you really willing to tie up that much money in a nickel back with Starks?

If they sign Winfield, I hope they simply leave Wilson where he is and place Starks and Winfield across from each other with Hill as nickel. Use that #3 elsewhere to shore up another weakness...DT or DE, WR or even QB if the Cards are so inclined.

I would LOVE to see Winfield in AZ.

I like the idea of Fits beside Boldin, but I really think Taylor would be a great pick. We need defence bigtime.

The question is:

Can any team (Cards included) tie up that much cap money in the defensive backfield (or any unit for that matter)? Starks has a big contract and I think he is staying...Winfield will get a big contract. Then you draft Taylor at pay him #3 money? Plus Jackson has a nice size contract too. Makes no sense to me.

Then you have to scrimp on pass rush and all of a sudden, the vaunted DB corp doesn;t look quite as good.

I don't know about this.

I agree. Spend the dough on Kearse and suddenly the guys you have plus a less-costly FA CB look worlds better than they did last year.

I wonder if the Cards could work a deal to trade their #3 pick to Cleveland for their #7 plus Northcutt and maybe a third rounder?

I think we need both a CB and a DT/DE pass rusher. If I had a choice, I would spend more for the pass rusher than the CB. 1 tier pass rusher and a 2 tier CB.

How about the Cardinals signing the following players:

Al Wallace (DE-Carolina)
Ebenezer Ekuban (DE-Dallas)
Fernando Bryant (CB-Jacksonville)
Chris Villarrial (OG-Chicago)
Todd Bouman (QB-New Orleans)
