Obviously Aldridge still hasn't seen a Suns game in 6 years...

1A. Scottie Pippen, Blazers. He's at the point of his career where he's not interested in big bucks, only in playing and helping a team get over the top. He might relent to Phil Jackson's inquiries and wind up with the Lakers, but it's honorable that Pippen has said he doesn't want to just leech on somewhere with a squad that's already won. That's why it would make sense for the defensively-challenged Suns to give him a call.

as less sense as a signing of pippen makes, colangelo was always so hot for him, he'd do it somehow

whether it's good or not

Simply amazing. The Phoenix Suns were 14th in points allowed last season. They allowed 94.4 points per game which was only 4 points more than San Antonio, who was second in the NBA in points allowed. They were actually 11th in opponents field goal percentage giving up 43.8%. That doesn't look to me like a team that struggled defensively. Even against the league's best it was usually the Phoenix Suns defense that carried them.

Get used to it, everyone. The Suns will be "soft on defense" until they win a championship, if not longer than that. There's no logic to it, but that's the way it is. Writers are always more interested in having something to say than in being correct.

Did you see later in the article when he says that Steve Smith is "30-something"? What, he can't take ten seconds to look up Smith's age on line? Smith was born March 31, 1969, Mr. Aldridge, so he's 34 years old. Glad to help.

geez, I'm almost two months older than steve smith. that makes me feel really old.

also, i'd love to have pippen on our squad. he'd add more of a veteran presence, could back up all three of the smaller spots (just in case barbosa is not ready and none of the sg's "get it" or are injured next year). he'd be excellent supersub at both sf and sg. and he could play superb defense on the better sg's and sf's.

We already have a poor man's Scottie Pippen in Penny. He can do everything that Pippen can do and he plays serviceable defense. Only if Pippen comes her for the vet minimum I say we leave him be. The last thing we need is expensive old men. Our defense is fine anyway. Witht the stats provided above, and the best defense against 3-point shots.

Penny is not really a servicable defernder. Based on defense alone I would much rather have Pippen who can be the same do-it all type of player that Penny is. He is also a better leader and doesn't have the ego.

It also seems to me that whenever Pippen plays he doesn't make those lazy passes that Penny makes quite regularly.

Their stats are almost the same except in steals Pippen leads by a bigger margin while Penny shoots a better % from behind the arc on roughly half as many attempts.

If we could trade Penny for a re-signed Pippen plus either Dale Davis or Arvydas Sabonis. I would throw in a pick as well.

Come back to reality slin. That would be a horrible trade for Portland. And BTW, Pippen's ego is as big or bigger than Hardaway's.

Call me crazy, but I would not trade Penny Hardaway for anybody who is not either:
a) An all star
b) Expiring contract

I really love what Penny's done last year, and I say keep him!

CRAZY....just kidding :p

I totally agree. If we got an allstar, it would be worth it due to the all star production. It might hurt us from being able to resign Marbury and extend Amare a few years from now, but in the near future we would be better.

If we could get an expiring contract, we could also improve the team, but the improvements might also lead us into having difficulty resigning Marbury and extending Amare.

Once Googs and Penny are off the books, I hope the Suns are responsible with the money that they will have. It will be an opportunity to add depth and keep our own guys, which could lead us to a championship down the road.
