Scottie Pippen" said:
Because I'm an all-around player," Pippen added. "Coaches would rather have a Scottie-type player than a Michael. I was an all-around player. I made people around me better."

Michael Doleac maybe.

I will say however that if he IS in good shape and his knees hold out, he's a dangerous addition to the Lakers. That could make them a true dark horse for the WC championship. I vote he goes to the Heat, where he wont do MUCH more than the Heat were capable of already, and who the SUns would run right by in the Finals, god willing.

Pippen wasn't very good 5 years ago. I doubt he'd be much better now, at 41.

The dude is 41. He just misses basketball. He's not going to contribute anywhere. He definitely can't play here. He thinks our team is called the Phoenix Sun.

Wasn't there a team called the Sun in that old timers baseball league that played for 1 or 2 seasons about 12-17 years ago? (for retired mlb players)

Maybe a Freudian slip about his age?

When he was playing for the Blazers Pippen had to have fluid drained from his knee every single game. I doubt he has the wheels to keep up with the Suns.

I'd take him on the Suns for the sole reason of keeping him away from the Lakers, Mavericks, and Spurs...Otherwise, I agree with a post earlier about letting Miami have him.

After missing about 7 or 8 in a row at the top of the key during the skills competition, no thanks. His shooting is what is going to keep teams interested.

This guy isn't a good post up player. He's not fast enough to slash through the lane. So what would we use him for? 3 point shooting? Rebounding?

In his last 3 years from 3 point range:

.305
.286
.271

In his last 3 years rebounding:

5.20
3.50
2.10

I just think people are overvaluating his impact to any team at this point. If the Mavs or someone else wants him then good. Let them eat up some of their cap space with this guy versus getting a younger player that could contribute the same type of numbers.

I think you were missing my point. (maybe not) If Pippen can't shoot, he isn't much good to any team in the league (especially ours), because he just doesn't have the rest of the skills to compete anymore.

Barkley was on Sportscenter on Saturday morning before the All Star game and was talking about it. He was spot on: "Of course Scottie feels good, he hasn't done anything for 3 years. I feel good too." And, "he retired the first time because he wasn't good enough anymore, not playing for three years hasn't made him any better."

It was classic Barkley. He was sort of laughing the whole time he said it, of course, he might've been still buzzed from the All-Star parties......

I can't remember anybody out of the league that long coming back and being effective. Maybe on a slowdown team he could become a kind of taller Gary Payton, but it is not all that likely he'd fit on the Suns.

An NBA "Rumor" -- for what it's worth (probably not much):

Lots of interest in Pippen
Monday, Feb 26, 2007 10:57 am EST

Scottie Pippen, looking to make a comeback in the league at age 41, hopes to schedule private workouts with teams in the coming days and says that "a half-dozen" teams have called him.

Among the teams supposedly interested in the former Bulls star are the Los Angeles Lakers, which would reunite Pippen with his former coach Phil Jackson, the Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns.

I'd rather have Reggie Miller, who is rumored to be considering a comeback of his own.

Yeah, I would take Reggie in a heartbeat. Does Reggie want open 3-point shots, come to the SUNs and we will make it happen. Wow, with his playoff experience this is what dreams are made of.

Oh yeah, I'm awake now and it would never happen.

the ONLY reason i would want Pippen on this team is because i think he would be the PERFECT mentor for Diaw. there were many comparisons made between Diaw and Pippen last season, and it would just seem fitting for Diaw to learn one-on-one with the guy he should model his game after.

Reggie on the other hand would be a decent pickup just because of his shooting touch.

We already have a Pippen in Jalen Rose.

But to be fair to Pippen, you can't judge his shooting skills in a competition like the one he was in. Plus Pippen looked in phenomenal shape.

If the Suns could realistically Reggie Miller I'd be all for it. He wouldn't have to do anything but spot up and get to the free throw occassionally.

I would like Pippen from the standpoint that I think he would be valuable as an experienced competitor and I see many similarities between he and Diaw and it would be nice he could rub off a little on Diaw.

I can't see Pippen being a mentor to anybody... not a very 'unselfish' guy.

Pippen took a sidekick seat to Jordan for 6 championships. That was maybe the #1 reason that team was able to be dynasty.

In his prime Pippen had the tools to be the #1 guy on any team and chose to remain on the Bulls and put trophies ahead of his ego.

Perhaps Christie would be a better bet. At least he used to play defense and could help defend the slashers of Dallas. I haven't heard much about him in recent days. The last I heard he didn't want to complete his (second ???) 10 day contract with the Clippers. I know he has baggage so he might not be worth the effort. I do think he would help Phoenix more than Pippen.

While we are talking about head cases - What ever happened to Latrel Sprewell? Could he defend? He may have been more of a scorer.

Also, Shawn Kemp was working hard to make a comeback, what happened with that?

Some excerpts from Chris Sheridan

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?id=2781201&sport=nba&ft=ss
"I'm looking for a competitive team that has championship capabilities," Pippen said before hanging up, "and I'm thinking in the next week or two, I should be ready to play in the top level of competition. I'm probably there right now.".....

who said he was even open to the idea of signing a 10-day contract --
