Are there any big name free agents that is worth looking at this coming off season. We really are in need of a rush D end even if it is in the form of a situational pass rusher that comes in on 3rd downs because for the most part we are pretty solid against the run.

Truly great DE's and CB's rarely hit the market. I know it'd be exciting to land a Champ Bailey, a Grant Wistrom or Jevon Kearse, but those are some real long shots.

I really see no easy fix to juicing up our pass rush this offseason. There are no great ones worth a top 5 pick, and there is no Colvin, or even a Holliday, who we can look to in free agency as far as I can tell.

I wouldn't be all that excited to land Wistrom. At least not at the expense of other players that could help us.

But if we land Wistrom, we would be able to fix other areas.

If we sign a Chris McAllister (unlikely) or Jevon Kearse (unlikely), we won't have enough cash to add much else.

Wistrom could be had for a lot less, and would allow us to add another player of his caliber (which is admittedly a lower caliber than Kearse or McAllister).

Krang,

I'm of the mind that Kearse and McAllister are all that our defense would need. If Starks can come back from his injury and we can resign Barrett at a reasonable price, our CB woes are over and our pass rush from the DE position would be solved.

But we won't have the cheese (cash) to sign them with. We will really only have enough for one of them.

We should have around 10 million to spend, and either will cost around 7 million. I would rather add Wistrom, a decent serviceable corner, and a 2nd/3rd receiver.

But of course this all depends on us keeping Emmitt, not cutting Starks, not cutting Clement. If all three are gone, we will have more money to spend but more holes to fill. Starks shouldn't be counted on, and I really hope he is a cap casualty.

Wistrom, as sad as it sounds, would upgrade the entire defense.

We would no longer have the poor man's Wistrom (KVB), we would have the real thing!

Based on how Barrett played this season, I'm not sure if that will be the case...

I keep thinking that we have deep pockets like last year. We still can do some damage with $10 MM. From my way of thinking we should focus on McAllister as priority #1. Would rather have Bailey but the chances of him hitting the market are slim what with Arrington extending..........Snyder can now tag him without worring about LaVar

Let's discard Smith and free up his $3MM. Unfortunately, don't we take too much of a cap hit letting go of Starks and Clement? I'm OK replacing KVB with Wistrom.

McAllister is a pipedream, and not even worth discussing.

The Ravens will have a lot of money to throw at him. And if he doesn't respond to the financial offers, he will be franchised.

We have virtually no chance of getting him.

I really respect E. Smith but his playing days are over and he should retire and not embarass himself any further. The Cards need to nudge him but I hope Emmitt is smart enough to see what is happening. Go up to the TV booth Emmitt and let us all remember you as one of the greatest running backs of all time and also a person of great class. Hell! Make him an assistant coach.

He'd be great to have sure, but I don't see him coming in for as little as you think he could be had. And I really don't think he gives us the athleticism and explosiveness that we need at the position. But who, other than Kearse, does that's out there?

What about Shawn Springs?

We don't need another injury prone corner....

Also, did anyone see Anquan have his way with Springs last week? Springs has been a disappointment after having such a great early career.

I would take Springs for, at the most 4 million per season. He just gets injured way too much, and plays inconsistantly.

I'd take Springs over Starks in a second.

But would you take Springs with a history of missing time due to injuries, for 5 million per year (he'll ask for at least that)?

I wouldn't. I wouldn't take Starks for that much either.

It doesn't have to be an either/or type of thing. There will be other players available.

What do you think of Bobby Taylor? He can be had cheaper and has the big frame to smother these tall recievers.

Honestly, I want Troy Vincent. The guy has another few good years, and could be had a bit cheaper than Springs, Woodson, or McAllister.

Bobby Taylor would be intriguing if he could be had for less. And if we could convince Troy to come, maybe Bobby would as well. Add Vincent, Bobby Taylor, keep Barrett at a reasonable price, and we would have a decent secondary.

I also wouldn't mind us pursuing Fred Smoot if he could be had for a reasonable price.

Cornerback is a position that we can address in free agency and/or the draft.

Personally, I'm rooting for Nathan Vasher to fall in to round two. It's a long shot, sure, so you try to get at least one vet before the draft.

Some mock drafts that I've looked at have him in the middle of round 2...which would make him available to us.....those same mocks have us going with a CB in round 2....but they mentione CB's like Batman Carrol from Arkansas and Hall from V-Tech.....I like Vasher......I hope he's there when we pick and that we pick him....at 5'10"-180 he's a tad small but he's a cover corner who can hit and playing at Texas he's played against decent competition.

He played S and then CB at Texas. He's also been a punt returner. He's a ballhawk, and he hits hard. He's a terrific tackler. He's surely a first rounder, unless he measures a little short or runs a little slow in his workouts.
