Griffith is borderline adequate and about 50 years old. He is also the only one on the entire roster. Who's gonna fill in if he gets hurt? At his age that is far from an impossability.

I really wish we could have addressed this via draft. But with the draft we had its hard to be upset.

50?

I agree though that we need some competition.

Hopefully a few current roster guys and a couple of UDFA's can push the Old man.

Obviously Im exaggerating his age but in football years he is.

It should get addressed during the June cut downs or in FA. One I liked was Dwayne Slay.

Whos a good one available in FA? Who is a good one that is projected to be cut?

We can't have stars everywhere and I bet next year we will address the issue. Also we have a issue at RT unless Ross gets his head out of his A**. I really like the picks of Lewis and Watson to help out the interior of the D-Line

We dont need a star. We need some fresh legs who is more than just barely adequate. We also have no other FS on the entire roster.

With the Dline fixed and Adrian Wilson not having to play so close to the LOS, Griffith might be okay for the year. I'd like a young replacement and depth like you but he could be serviceable this year.

He won't need to cover nearly as much of the field as he had to last year

Saints are shopping former Buccaneer Dwight Smith. I'm not sure what the issue is with him. Maybe he can be had for a late round pick?!?!

That's what Ko Simpson and Watrkins offered. Maybe not the best man to man guys, but they can play the deep ball and break on a throw to give a corner help and make a play.

I would love Dwight Smith. Can play some corner too.

DG just mentioned signing maybe 1 free agent and a couple of UDFA's to compete for the free safety job.

He also mentioned Francisco and Brewer from the current roster.

I was really hoping we would have drafted Simpson. But he went right before we picked.

Draft is done except for comp picks. Dwayne Slay from T Tech would be worth a look see.

As for cuts - you have to wait that out come June.

Simpson probobly wouldn't have started anyway.

Honestly. It couldnt be that hard to beat out Griffith. Especially if you have Simpson type talent.

Slay from Texas Tech is projected as a Strong Safety.

Here's a few UDFA's that could play FS:

Harrison Smith 6'2"-200 California

Dion Byrum 5'10"-205 Ohio

Antonio Malone 6'-185 Toledo

Darrell Brooks 6'-200 Arizona

Scott Ware 6'2"-215 USC

Jahmile Addae 5'10"-205 West Virginia

Or at the least play a lot this year, start next. One thing I have to say about Denny is he gets players into a system before they are "needed". You draft a guy this year who you project to start next year when so-and-so is a free agent. I figured FS would bring about the same thing.

I went to sleep last night with visions of him lasting those 9 picks too. But I will admit Watson is a nice consolation prize. In all fairness, FS is a relatively easy position to fill a need with. Somebody mentioned Dwight Smith. I was hoping we would at least have brought him in last year when he was a FA.

Free Safety could arguably have been the Cards biggest need going into this draft. Griffith is a SS by trade. Not to mention, he's old and slow. He provides a certain fire and intelligence, but the skill level has deteriorated substantially. This is particularly disturbing considering we have a Pro Bowl caliber SS in front of him, who's only warts appear to be decision making and poor coverage skills.

I'm certainly not complaining about the rest of our picks though. We've had a FANTASTIC draft. Addressing most of our needs and getting extremely good value at each of our picks. However, I'd still like to see another RT and FS!

Yeah, I believe the team is really impressed w/ Francisco and he may be the sleeper. I think he was a cornerback in college and may translate very well to FS. He has the speed and instincts to cover in deep patrol, and hits very well. Just ask Anquan!

Byrum has great speed I thought he may have been the pick in the 7th, he could also help in the kick/punt return game.

He has great hands as well and just about singlehandedly won the Ohio vs. Pitt game....I know cause I was on the 50 yard line.

Great character guy who could play free safety.
