He was effective as a blocking back... That's about it.

just a good blocking back huh? Some of YOU are freaking delusional that guy busted his ass for back to back 1200 behind this ********* line in football for his first few years and would have done it again had Wiz not mistakenly benched him, then after Wiz swallowed his pride and admitted he made a mistake and restarted the Edge. Well we all know what happened HE gave us a legit running game all the way to the Super Bowl! Some of you are unbelievable not to give this guy the props he deserves for his time here in Arizona, guarantee you we would not have been in the Superbowl without Edge and that is a FACT!!!!!!

I agree with nashman. Edge put this team on the map with Free Agency. All he did was produce back to back 1,100 and 1,200 yard seasons, yet some still crapped all over him. Contrast that with Warners four seasons here in which the first two were awful, even get booed off the field. He had one spectacular season and most are wanting to resign a 38 yr old QB with a history of injuries and only one great season in the past nine. I don't get it. I also agree nashman Edge was very critical to the Super Bowl run. Without Edge doing what he did the Cards don't make it that far. I would love to see Edge stay, but also see him restructure his deal. Good luck Edge.

On the map? What big name free agents has Edge brought to AZ? Warner? Laboy? Gandy? Hood?

Edge did want he was signed to do, nothing more. He's not a savior and the Cardinals don't own him a thing.

Let's see, subpar run blocking OL and all Edge did in the playoffs against some of the best Defenes is get yards when needed and provided enough of a running game for an exceptional passing game to succeed. He won't bust a huge run now but he will hold on to the ball, get the tough yards, will always fall forward for extra yards and being on a team that is blessed with the passing talent it has...his pass blocking skills are more than a small luxury...and regardless of his persona to some, his teamates respect him, though unhappy he was not in the starting lineup during the year because you could not expect less from a competitor, he had a smile on his face and one of the first to give Hightower a congrats when he did well and his teammates respect and look up to him. I hope Edge can stay

If he wants to be let got earlier than his contractual commitment perhaps he should refund a proportional amount of his signing bonus.

Did I really say that ????

At this point in his career he is more effective in the pass offense as a blocker than he was running the ball. Yes he did have a big game or two, but he quit on the team before he got benched. He went down on shoe string tackles and dove before taking a hit... So to paint the picture that the Cards quit on him is BS. He needed that slap in the face.

As far as putting the team on the map in terms of FA. What big FA did we sign after James? Terrence Holt? Rod Hood? Maybe Mike Gandy...

I would argue that Bertrand Berry is the FA that put this team on the map. Travis LaBoy and Chike are in the mold of Berry, not Edge. So I would say Berry not only set up defensive players but play makers to come here setting up Kurt Warner followed by Edge.

Most of the core players and starters on this team were drafted by the team, not a result of Edgerrin James signing here. Boldin, Fitz, Dansby, Dockett, DRC, Hayes, Smith, Breaston, Rolle... What big FA splash have we made in the past 3 seasons??? NONE. Edge has always cared about one thing, and thats himself and his "HOF" career.

I like Edge but he does not fit into our system, and our offense's mindset.

I think Edge even agree with that.

I thank him for all he has done for this organization, and I believe that is A LOT more than most give him credit for.

I would like to see him traded or released soon, so that he can find a place where he will be happy, and both side can move on.

I have a lot of respect for Edge, and wish him the best of luck with the rest of this career.

Hey DBDvl, what you meant was he should offer to buyout himself from his final year of his contract.

Or many it's a non-injury settlement so he can get out now.

Hey Edge, how does $500K sound? Just write the Cards a check and they will let you of your your contract pronto.

More often, older players should put a $1M roster bonus onto their last year of their contract due March 1st. That way, if the teams wants to hang onto them, they have to pay up. Right now, we can let Edge hang until he either decides to play again for the Cards (his best money making prospect this year) or the Cards can wait and cut him just before the season starts, paying him nothing. No jobs of any value will be left by then. Maybe if some RB gets injured in preseason, Edge might actually be worth a 6th round pick? Who knows.

Edge was a beast. The only reason he was effective in the playoffs is because he was benched. If he hadn't had the time off he would have been gassed come playoff time.

Edge came here to get his last big payday, and he got it. Now he should just shut up. No team is going to offer him any kind of big money contract for next season anyway.

Edge is a beast. You people will miss him when he's gone. I already do.

Agreed.

I remember the day when we pined for the team to have a 1,000 yarder at the HB spot. James put up 1,229 and 1,159 yards in his first two seasons here. Not exactly like he was inadequate. Yes, his YPC were in the mid threes but when needed, he did the job.

Yes he was a beast, but don't confuse that with creating a productive running game. He accounted for over 80% of all carries those two seasons and only averaged 3.4 ypc. On top of riding him too hard, they never solidified the line; thus, making it nearly impossible to have a threatening running attack. I don't care of you have AP or LT in the backfield, they're not getting much production from our running game.

You're beating a dead horse, I have been trying to make this point for months.

Our running game improved very little (if at all) with Edge here, His two 1000+ seasons equaled what two scrubs splitting that same amount of carries would average.

Edge is a good back, but 3.4 ypc costing several millions is no better than 3.4 ypc split between a stable of scubs making 1/10 of that.

I'm ready for a REAL running game in AZ, maybe someday we'll have the rb AND the line to pull it off. :smiliefan:

Although Berry may have been the Cards best FA signing, Edge was the first big name FA to sign here. It made people take notice and brought attention to the organization. Although James may not have directly brought FA's to AZ, the fact that he came when he arguably was the biggest FA at that time said a lot about this organization. This place was no longer seen as a haven for washed up, has beens as was once the reputation. So I can feel pretty comfortable when I say he put the Cards on the FA map. I never said the Cards don't own him a thing, but I think many fans have been way to harsh and critical of Edge and he has done great while here.

How can 3.4 be "great"?

I think "serviceable" is the word you were looking for.
