I agree with nashman. Edge put this team on the map with Free Agency. All he did was produce back to back 1,100 and 1,200 yard seasons, yet some still crapped all over him. Contrast that with Warners four seasons here in which the first two were awful, even get booed off the field. He had one spectacular season and most are wanting to resign a 38 yr old QB with a history of injuries and only one great season in the past nine. I don't get it. I also agree nashman Edge was very critical to the Super Bowl run. Without Edge doing what he did the Cards don't make it that far. I would love to see Edge stay, but also see him restructure his deal. Good luck Edge.
At this point in his career he is more effective in the pass offense as a blocker than he was running the ball. Yes he did have a big game or two, but he quit on the team before he got benched. He went down on shoe string tackles and dove before taking a hit... So to paint the picture that the Cards quit on him is BS. He needed that slap in the face.
As far as putting the team on the map in terms of FA. What big FA did we sign after James? Terrence Holt? Rod Hood? Maybe Mike Gandy...
I would argue that Bertrand Berry is the FA that put this team on the map. Travis LaBoy and Chike are in the mold of Berry, not Edge. So I would say Berry not only set up defensive players but play makers to come here setting up Kurt Warner followed by Edge.
Most of the core players and starters on this team were drafted by the team, not a result of Edgerrin James signing here. Boldin, Fitz, Dansby, Dockett, DRC, Hayes, Smith, Breaston, Rolle... What big FA splash have we made in the past 3 seasons??? NONE. Edge has always cared about one thing, and thats himself and his "HOF" career.
