I don't see what the point of holding him hostage is.

Sure, mgmt doesn't want to be with just 1 back under contract, but it's not like Edge was coming back here (even if he never was released).

He would just hold out - what are they gonna do? Force him to report?

Edge will play if forced to. A five million dollar pay check says he will and if he doesn't he will get fined.

They're not holding him hostage. They're doing whats best for the team. Edge will be released once we soildify the RB position through FA or the draft.

absolutely. You don't quit one job until you have another one and there's no need to further deplete the RB position until they have a replacement.

I like Edge, IMO he played hard and well for the Cardinals. At this point I do not believe he is worth 5+M but the Cards do not have anyone to replace him yet. JJ was signed for 2.5M for 4 years. Our FO must believe they can get better value/potential elsewhere and I will trust them for now. As far as Edge, he is obviously not content being overpaid as a part-time back. It also doesn't seem that having a shot at a championship is his primary motivation. If it's not about the $$$ (I doubt he can match his current salary with another team) and it's not about winning (what playoff team can he start for?) then it is probably about his stats. We need to let him go.

Well said. Edge has always been very concerned with his legacy and he's obsessed with climbing the all-time yardage ladder. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to a poor team just to guarantee he'll get a significant number of carries.
