I still have no idea why we would buy out Greg Monroe.

Pure guess, the Suns might fear Monroe might improve the team just enough where he would hurt their chances in the draft.

I also thought this may be why the Suns did not pursue Nurkic at last season's trade deadline.

I wonder if Phoenix is working the phones with Cleveland on a trade involving Monroe. Might as well try And get something for Monroe.

Cleveland first this year? He is a fit for them. He adds an offensive inside presence that TT and Frye do not. He is an expiring, so they can decide what else they want with him next year, but they would get his Bird Rights, so they could keep him if LeBron decides to stay.

If we cut him and they pick him up, there are no Bird Rights.

I guess this could almost be like free agency for Monroe early. If he finds a team and they can come to some understanding about a future deal, they could do what amounts to a sign and trade for him now. For a team over the cap, that would be appealing.

Monroe isn't just a regular expiring contract, he's due $17 million so he's a very sizable expiring contract. The Suns would be fools to just let him walk already. They need to keep him until the trade deadline. McD always talks about combining assets to get a star and Monroe's salary allows us to do that in addition to a young player or two as well as picks we have. Of course a star player would need to become available but I think it'd be better to keep Monroe for a trade rather than buying him out because his salary will still count against the cap this year and we won't have the space to absorb a large contract without sending something out.

I’d trade him to Cleveland for this year’s first top 10 protected and their 2023 first unprotected.

There must be some interesting negotiating going on right now. Has to be complex.

Well why was Len even re-signed? Of course he should play. He should start.
Every third or fourth game. Y'know, his decent games. When his offense makes up for him being lost on defense.
