Russ knows his stuff. You on the other hand do not. Weren't you the guy with these inside sources that insisted Jerryd Bayless wasn't going to UofA and ASU was going to land several big-name recruits in 2010?
I really doubt Herb Sendek takes 8 commitments unless he thinks someone isn't going to qualify. It simply creates too much roster imbalance especially when six of them are wings. Of course I could be wrong but coaches never do that. It is an interesting way to to recruit though: Bring in big classes every year then run off the ones who don't buy in after their freshman season. The NCAA is going to start cracking down on this but it's pretty intriguing in the meantime.
These guys are 2011 but yeah, 2012 is loaded especially on the West Coast. Scouts say it's the best West Coast class in over a decade. I think ASU has somewhat backed off on NJ, it looks like he's going to UofA or one of the traditional powers.
Just to be clear I have no inside info on Barry at all. It just makes little sense to me that he'd pick ASU over St. Johns given the rosters. ASU has a lot of talented guys that can play the 2 or 3 and in their system even the 4. Barry would be competing with those guys. St Johns isn't similary stocked from what I can see, it sounds like St. Johns actually expects Polee to contribute right away, I don't think he'd play much more than Rudd did if he were at ASU. If I were Barry my only concern with St Johns would be Steve Lavin as my coach, but if I were Barry I would have no idea how bad Lavin was at UCLA, I'd be too young and French.
2012 is the reason as I mentioned before I didn't like UCLA taking the Wears. 2 less rides to offer in 2012 and it creates a scenario where UCLA could have 6 rides locked up with Smith, Stover, Lane, Nelson and the Wears in 2012. All good players but only Smith is potentially a "star". That leaves only 7 rides left to fill out your backcourt and this is in a year where you have Muhammad, Xavier Johnson, Ashley, Longrus etc all wings or 4's, and a potentially elite 5 in Upshaw. Not to mention guys like Grant Jerrett, Tebutt(not a huge fan myself). I'd much rather see UCLA use 4-5 rides in the 2012 class than before it.
ASU probably doesn't have to worry about rides though an 8 man class will work itself out, especially with 2 jucos in it, you can expect a few transfers after one year which will allow them to balance out with a couple in 2011 and then try to load up in 2012.
