I remember reading something to that effect a while ago, that the issue won't be max dollars but rather max years. I would much rather re-sign Amare to a shorter contract too, but since he won't take one, whatever team gives him the five years (or six years in sign-and-trade) will be taking on a lot of risk there.Saver willing to offer Amare max but not for all the years he wants
I can see a sign&trade if Amare can find a team willing to give him the max with max years. I agree with the Suns on this one Amare is a great player but with is knees and eye not sure I would invest that much money. If the Suns do a sign & trade it would open the door for at least some talent to come back.
It will certainly be interesting to see if any team out there is willing to give him a max years contract (5 as opposed to the 6 we can offer). I would guess that most teams have the same issues we do. I am surprised at the confirmation that we are willing to give max money, but not surprised at our unwillingness to give him max years.
Well, from our perspective, just getting an $18M trade exemption is worth doing the sign-and-trade provided that the Suns use that money to acquire a player to replace Amare. Picks and/or young players would be a bonus, but even if teams don't offer much, the Suns still benefit from trading Amare as opposed to simply letting him walk.NO ONE wanted to pay in trade material JUST FOR THE RIGHT TO GIVE AMARE THE MAX.
Who's name is missing from this article?

I assume you are referring to Amare. IMHO, he is considered a hier below the true elite free agents, ie LeBrong, Wade, Bossh, and Boozer. I'm not sure who else will be available. Pierce could opt for free agency, but I doubt it and he's a bit old for the top tier.
Probably the other guy the SUNS would covet at PF to retire here with Nashy....In the history of the game name one "elite" PF that was a weak rebounder and below average defender?
